From Boston to Waltham - easy to commute by transit???
Hi Everyone,
In addition to my other questions, I wanted to find out if the city of Waltham, MA was easy to access by transit - train or would I need a car to drive there from Boston?
My church is located in Waltham, MA, 02451.
Thanks!!!

Theres a commuter rail in station Waltham that will cost 4.75 to get to North Station and takes a little over 20 minutes. Check out mbta.com for more information. Welcome fellow newbie (I just moved to Newtonville/Waltham)

If you are considering moving closer to Waltham, there are many nice areas nearby.
There is an area of Newton- Auburndale that is the furthest west and right below Waltham- I lived there for 2 years and really enjoyed it.

I don't think the commuter rail stop is near 02451. Like someone said earlier, if you go to MBTA.com > Official Website for Greater Boston's Public Transportation System you can "find service nearby" and enter your church's address in to see if there are any bus routes nearby; however, many of these bus routes may not run on Sundays so keep that in mind. I know many of the churches in the area with a large college group regularly run shuttles from Alewife and/or many of the major campuses nearby. If your church doesn't have a shuttle, just ask someone to pick you up.
ME Hokie: How's it going? Have you settled in yet and found a bank?

I would say you probably want to have a car instead of depending on commuter rail. The schedule is terrible on Sundays. You may need to walk a couple of miles from the train station to your church. Umm.. there are plenty of churches... why go to the one in Waltham?
Newton in general is a nicer town than Waltham is. Cost of living is a relative term. In my opinion, it is fairly high. Just like I think $3/gallon gas is high. However, when you go overseas and look at $6/gallon, you think gas is cheap here.

Parsec,
Thanks for asking and good memory, haha. I moved in on the first and am getting settled in a little bit still but doing well. I just signed up for the Wamu checking and savings so should be getting my card in the mail shortly and have my direct deposits go there soon as well. Thanks for your help.
GA777,
Rent is definitely a little high. It depends on what you're looking for. If you are willing to live in a multi family home you could find it for a little cheaper, maybe around 1k. An apartment in a complex will be a little higher depending on amenities, # of bedrooms, location, etc. Craigslist is a good place to look or even maybe with a realtor. Good luck
