Carlli45 is on a distinguished road
I have lived in Mass. all my life, you have to see Tyringham....it's gorgeous, and has a very small population.
Your story would fit right into that town. I had a friend who lived there, we spend hours just walking around and looking at the beautiful scenery.
Hope you make it here one day, you won't be sorry.
Regards,
Carli

Hey Cam,

Maybe you can help me out? My little family lived in Lexington two years ago but moved back to California, which we regret. We are considering moving back because we love it for all the of colorful descriptions listed before, but need some info about Newton. We have a 13 year old son that loves sports and is average academically but could be above average with more effort.
Anyway, we are trying to decide on which high school in Newton would be better for him, which would determine what part of Newton to move to. Can you help me out?

North is definately more competitive in Sport. South more competitive in Academics. Check Wikipedia.

From Wikipedia:
Newton North competes in the Bay State league with other suburban Boston public schools.

Since 1894, the boys' football team plays rival Brookline High School in the traditional Thanksgiving Day Game. This is one of the oldest high school football rivalries in Massachusetts.

The boy's soccer team played in the state finals in 2001.

The boys' indoor track team won the state championship for 2001-02. In 2004-05, the team won a "triple crown" taking the cross country, indoor, and outdoor state titles; the Newton North girl's indoor track team won the state title as well.

In the spring of 2002, the tennis team won the Division 1 State Championship.

The boys' basketball team won the Division 1 State Championship in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons. According to schoolsports.com, it was ranked 12th in the nation for the '05-'06 season.

In 2005-06, the boys' football team won the Bay State league championship and went on to the division 1A state championship super bowl.

In 2006, Newton North's David Smith won the Massachusetts State Shotput Championship.

In 2006, Charles O'Brien won the Heisman Trophy. He now attends Boston College and is starting on the Division 1 football team

South notables
During the mid and late 90's Newton South's Men Tennis Team lead by Reeve Segal and Alex Wong, made a state record three consecutive state finals, bringing Newton South the State Championship in 1997.

The Newton South Basketball team led by Harvard graduate Matt Stehle, and MIT graduate Mike D'Auria reached the Division 1 South final during the 2001-2002 season.

South notables include the girls' cross-country and track and field teams, which perenially rank among the best in the state.

South also sports a prominent Science Team that competes regularly in state-wide championships such as the National Ocean Science Bowl, the State Olympiad and a 2-person team-based engineering competition sponsored by BU. The Science Team finished first in the Western Suburban Science League and fourth in the state Science Olympiad for the 2005-2006 season.

Two stars of NBC's comedy The Office graduated from Newton South: John Krasinski and B.J. Novak. Novak actually wrote the first play Krasinski performed in at Newton South; they both graduated in 1997.
