More of the North/West side. Not sure about the Jewish population of the area

I bet one of the Worcester synogagues can help you out with some of those questions. I would call them...

I'm feeling more confident about this now, actually. I spoke with a realtor out in Worcester, who happens to be a friend's sister, and we've settled on a number of towns to look at outside of Worcester, but our concentration will be in 01602 and 01609 of Worcester, exactly where a responder (Gabe) suggested in our first thread here.

I'm finally feeling good about it now. Phew!

Now who wants to help us pack?

01602 is middle and upper-middle-class and predominantly Greek, Jewish, Armenian and Irish. 01609 is a lot more "Old Yankee" and more upscale than 01602. Both are very nice parts of the city. On the surface, Worcester is not appealing. Just below the surface, it's great. Very diverse. Much safer than you'd think. Nowhere near as flashy as Providence, but much nicer neighborhoods.

That's exactly the feeling that I got when we drove around a couple of months ago. I'd be happy in both areas, I think, even though we're not upscale kind of folks.

That was a good thing for me to hear! Thanks!

Since schools are not a concern, look into the far NW of Worcester in the Salisbury St corridor. It's beautiful with some really nice side streets You hard know you're in a city, and the JCC is right there.

We noticed that Salisbury St. and its side streets were really nice when we were driving around. I'm going to make sure that our realtor has that area in our MLS search criteria. Thanks!

The older homes around Newton Square are also very nice, with lots of character.

Define "older".

We lived in a house that was built in 1840. We will never do that again.

I'm guessing the houses in 01602 are 1890ish to 1930ish... the one with barns in the back are older.
