Relocating form Fairfield County, CT with preteen girls and my husband will be working in Dedham. Looking for a town with good schools and friendly atmosphere and good sports most kids can participate in. We liked Medfield, Sudbury, Dover and Norwell on south shore. Looking to spend $1million + in nice family area. Any comments on schools, commute, "snooty factor", etc on above towns?

Here are some helpful websites for choosing a public school.

I have several clients & friends in Sudbury who speak very highly of the school system. We used to live there and loved it - very picturesque, lots of nice trails, winding country roads, plenty of shopping & good restaurants for the burbs, lots of community activities, sports programs, etc.

Dover (and next door in Sudbury) are also very nice with one of the best rated school systems in the state. You really feel like you're out in the middle of nowhere in parts of these towns, which I love but some people might not care for. There are good sports programs - lacrosse, tennis, etc., but not as many as in larger burbs.

We didn't encounter a snob factor in Sudbury but I imagine in any affluent community there's likely a bit of that. People always say that about Wellesley but most of the people I've met there are very nice. Maybe I'm just not running in the snob circles! :-)

I have lived in Norwell for six years. The people here are great--I have never encountered snobbiness in this town. The schools are fabulous. Everyone who lives in town is so happy their children get to go to them. They are rated 25th in the state on SchoolDigger.com - School Rankings, Reviews and More - Public and Private Elementary, Middle, High Schools, which goes off the latest MCAS results. If you move here, you won't be sorry.

Norwell is a wonderful community but the commute to Dedham would be a nightmare.
