I am considering relocating my family there. It seems like a wonderful, family oriented community with an emphasis on water sports (sailing especially) and great schools. Am I right about this? What do you think about Marblehead?

I lived in Marblehead for a few years and loved it. Beautiful town. If the commute downtown wasn't such a b*tch, I'd still be there.

Unfortunately I don't sail or have kids, so I don't have a lot of input on schools or sailing.

Depending on where you work, Marblehead can be a wonderful community. As mentioned above, it can be a difficult location to get to and from.

My sister-in-law and her family have lived there for 18 years, my wife and I live in Lynnfield a couple towns away. I would not say there is a real big emphasis on water sports, however, sailing is limited to relatively few. I keep my boat in Boston Harbor!

Marblehead does offer plenty of terrific family and youth recreational programs, thru the town, the new YMCA, and the Jewish Community Center. The schools are among the highest rated in the north of Boston region but all this comes at a price. Even for Greater Boston, Marblehead is expensive and there is a price spent in time having to travel in and out of the peninsula to do your major shopping, commute to work, etc.

You'll have to decide what is important to you and your family.
