Hi, i am moving to Massachusetts from England in July which is great and exciting, the only problem is that i dont have a drivers licence and i need to acquire one pretty quickly. Would anybody be able to help me on the following......

1. How exactly i go about obtaining a licence? any info on costs etc.

2. Do i have to sit a theory test or anything like that?

3. How long does the process take?

4. How easy/difficult is the testing procedure?

Many thanks

Ok, well there are 2 parts to getting a license. First you have to bring your visa and proof of residency in Massachusetts, birth certificate to a Registry of Motor Vehicles location and then you will be able to take a written test (actually it's done on the computer). If you pass, you will be issued a Learner's Permit which will entitle you to drive (practice) as long as it's with another driver who is licensed and over 21. The next step is to make an appointment for a road test, again given at a branch of the RMV. If you pass that, you will be issued a license. The last I heard it takes about 2 months to get an appointment for the road test.
