What are you looking for in a city/town? What brought Brockton to mind? Just curious. I don't like bashing other towns and refrain unless I have a personal experience. I have friends who grew up in Brockton but they moved to the Cape over 10 years ago because they didn't like where the schools were at. The Brockton neighborhood I was in a few weeks ago was very nice, well kept, clean and quiet. But I would never want my kids going to school with the ones we encountered. By the way, I grew up in Lynn which is considered to be the North Shore equivalent of Brockton so I'm not easily offended by urban areas or people!
There are other towns that may better fit your criteria. Let us know what you're looking for.

Default Might want to check out bridgewater.

I haven't been there since I was in college 10 years. But I was I thought Bridgewater was a nice place to stay at.

Don't move to Brockton. It's much too dangerous.

yeah right! brockton's the most diverse place in massachusetts! go down almost any street on a normal day and you'll see rich people and poor people driving by. go to the mall one day and it's all white hicks, another day it's all thugs. it's practically random, and to all you people afraid of brockton, grow up. it's a city, would you walk around most of new york by yourself? and everyone loves that place

Smile Try Quincy, Dedham, Arlington, Winchester, Wakefield, Salem, Beverly, Hingham, Waltham, Needham, Mansfield etc.

You might look into Quincy its a pretty nice area and you can live on the Seacoast.

Hingham or Scituate might be other options! on the South Shore (they recently opened a commuter rail line Greenbush to South station) and you can get in and out easily.

Other towns to look into might be Arlington, Wakefield, Winchester, Melrose, Reading, Woburn, Medford, (north shore),

(Metro West): Concord, Needham, Newton, Brookline, Watertown, Waltham,
Bedford, Lexington

South West: Dover, Dedham, Canton, Stoughton, Mansfield, Foxboro,
Norwood, Medfield.

Northeast of Boston:
Winthrop, Salem, Marblehead, Rockport, Gloucester, Manchester-bY-the Sea, Beverly, Newburyport, Ipswich, Topsfield, Boxford, Georgetown, rowley, and Newbury.

Not sure what you'll find to meet your needs but some towns to check out.

I have a personal bias with Winchester, we have the best schools in the state , great location (Train stop 20 min from Boston), by rail or car.
and beautiful town...(I live here)

Arlington is quite nice too with a bike path through town.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
jeff

DON'T DO IT. As previous posters have indicated, Brockton is slumlike and icky at best and unsafe at worst. If you're moving to Boston, you will find none of the things to like about Boston there.

Bleah.

Parts of brockton are ghetto, I live in a perfectly normal neighborhood. I know a bunch of people who just moved here, I mainly see the same 3 homeless people over and over. I don't know anyone afraid of getting out of the car. Everyone I know goes to the mall in Brockton. Yes, there have been shootings, I don't know what to say about that really other than blame stupid kids for being stupid. Unless you're walking around at night by yourself or associating with "bad people" you're not gonna get shot. Brockton has it's issues but it's not a death trap... You just have to know the rules of any city. Don't go to certain gas stations at night (you'll know when you see them, craploads of gangs hang out there), don't walk through bad neighborhoods by yourself. Common sense as far as I'm concerned.

lmao, yeah ok...
Half the town is white, just because a black guy stares at you it doesn't mean it's race related. There's perverts in every town. I know craploads of rich white girls that drive nice cars in Brockton! Wtf is wrong with people...
