Wondering about the taxes on single family housing in Greenfield? Seems high. Is it in an upward spiral?

Property taxes are high in Greenfield, Massachusetts. Services are low and the schools are awful.
The town's tax Assessor seems to have a sweet deal on the taxes on her house on Chapman Street though. It's a pretty nice looking house but the condition is rated poor. She pays a lower property tax rate than my house where the condition is rated average-good. The Assessor actually owns two houses side by side. One they inherited. The second one next door they got by suing the former neighbor over a minor property line issue, getting a lien on the property in Superior Court, and then taking over ownership of it. Nice folks, huh? One thing you can always count on in Greenfield... they are dirty dogs! Watch your back (or buy a Kevlar vest). |
