I just moved up here from Maryland and have to say that this spring and summer were so nice up here, I'll gladly trade for a longer winter, if I can get rid of the horrible summer heat and humidity. We had code orange or red air on a regular basis and the AC was running non stop in MD. Here we don't even have AC and lived through the summer just fine, could have used a little window AC maybe on a couple of days, but other than that, no need for it. So I think some people hate the cold and would rather put up with heat in the summer, and others, like me - hate the heat and would rather live here and put up with colder winters.... to each their own :-))

I don't see how you'd possibly be able to do that without seriously affecting your child's academic performance.

I don't know anyone doing this. However, I can imagine you can do it to young child as most do not have letter grade. I wonder how teachers in high school give grades for the 5 months that you are missing. Did your friend's brother do that for college also? Half a semester in one college and another semester in different college?

Well I think giving it a shot for one year won't academicly retard my daughter and I am certain it will be an experience in taking chances in life which so many people are afraid of! I think having a happy mother is important and the winters for me have become unbarable. It's not her fault that we don't have help shoveling or paying the bills but that life. I love it in MA 1/2 the year and my parents are in their 80's so I can't completely leave them.
Every year I promise myself that this is my last winter and if I don't do it next school year when my daughter is going to change schools ... it may never happen. Since no one here has the experience, I'll just have to let you know how we make out ....

FrozenAngel,
Why don't you talk with the schools to see how they would handle it? I'm sure they probably seen something like that before.
People I know move from state to state due to their job. The major complaint I heard is not able to make friends or participate in certain activities due to commitment instead of academic problems. However, you have a little different situation.
Have fun with your tax returns also.

This is the kind of talk that keeps people stagnant. You can always come up with a million ideas to NOT do something. Thanks for the 1/2 hearted incouragement. Ask the schools? Why, if they are anything (in NC) like they are here, teachers/schools don't like anything to disturb their organized, round peg in round hole, academic, blinders on the eyes world. I've had enough school experience to realize that. I realize I'll be doing this without their blessing.
Remeber, if you have your feet firmly planted .... your stuck!

Does he, or does he stay there in Bledsoe's old house in Medfield all year?
