Default purse got stolen

Hi,
My wife and I had gone to a store on Sunday and while checking the items I forgot my wallet on one of the store shelves. By the time I realized (15 minutes) and came back it was gone.

I have called Credit/Debit Card Companies, I notice online that i have to notify the credit agency. (http://www.mass.gov/dia/Recommendations.pdf)

Do I have to go to the police station and file a report. Can we do this over the internet or do we have to visit a police station and file a report. I checked on mass.gov but wasn't able to find anything on how to do so.

Please let me know what else we should be doing?

I already have singed up for credit monitoring service.

call the store immediately and speak to a manager. They will suggest what the next step is...

Also, I don't know that any law requires it, but it's a good idea to make a police report. That way there's an official record that can help provide verification for any claims you might make later.

Call the store manager and let them know and call the police and ask them.

yeah- pretty sure that the police will ask if you notified the store. In some cases, if you wait too long it could deter the police from doing anything at all.

It's like if you get in a car accident and tell the police a week later. They will ask what you know about the other party. If you were to say- nothing...or, I let them go without getting their information....not much the police will be able to do. It would then be an insurance matter.

So- I am sure the store will have you fill out some sort of lost/stolen form which you can then give to the police.

If you canceled your card, you should be fine credit-wise. It's a big pain- I know....but you just have to rebound and cover all the bases..

My wallet was stolen at the aquarium several months ago. I was able to file a police report over the phone. I received a copy in the mail a few days later and I was able to use it for my credit card companies.
