I have heard Randolph wouldn't be a great place to live, I'm going to see a place there today so maybe it will become apparent! Just wanted to ask what the situation was. Looks like there are some nice areas near those lakes with trails, etc.

My DD lives in Randolph. Compared to surrounding towns, you get a lot more house
for your buck. Take a ride on Main St. to get the lay of the land.

Just off Main Street is Randolph Middle/High School. Take a look-see.

The town has been going downhill for decades. Some outlying areas are "OK", along the Rte. 28/ N Main St corridor is the roughest. Schools are no good. Sure you will get more for your money there, but your home will hold less of its value and you'll be surrounded by many more undesirables. That's the low-down.

I sold my house in Randolph (off South Main) in 1997. Not because I didn't like it at the time, we simply moved because of convenience. I was sad when I left. I really liked the town. I'm not sad I left now when I see what has happened there.
There were two things I believe brought the town down. The movie theatre along with all the overgrowth in business that came along with it, and the commuter rail.
The Town of Randolph did not manage it's growth at all. They saw dollar signs and just hit the gas pedal with absolutely no thought for what a nice, quaint little town it was.
Property values actually rose after I moved, mostly because of the commuter rail making it more accessible. However, since then, residents and town employees I know can't wait to get out. And property has been devalued because of the Town's incompetent management.
But they can't put the toothpaste back into the tube.

Lived in Randolph my whole life and have watched the town go downhill in many ways. Just last night our neighbors were robbed. All of the cars along our street were all broken into about two years ago. The schools are not good, although they are improving somewhat due to an increase in taxes. Yes, there are some conveniences such as close highway access, two supermarkets, many fast food chains and 24 hour shopping , but there are far too many reasons why you wouldn't want to call Randolph home.

Thank you all for the input. I've consistently heard a lot of problems with Randolph. In my 200K price range, I don't know what my options are in that area. Would you consider Brockton better?

If your looking at Brockton; with your budget take a look around Regent Rd., or other Camponelli (sp) developments.

Yes... I have a cousin that lives on Regent Rd., That area has a country feel to it.
Camponelli houses are traditionaly built on slabs, so they are valued less than houses with basements.
I think they were built in the 60's and 70's.
