Salem transportation (Boston, Lynn, Peabody: living in, mall, bus)

I am looking into Salem state and Salem in general. But I dont drive. I was wondering if it is possible to live in Salem without a car? Would it be overly difficult?

I lived in Salem for three years, worked in Boston, and never had a car. Did all my errands, etc. within walking distance. You can even get to Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers via bus. Example:
MBTA > Schedules & Maps > Bus > 465 - Salem Depot - Liberty Tree Mall via Peabody & Danvers
You shouldn't have any problem getting around.
Best of luck! I plan on moving back there someday.

If you dont mind me asking how did you get from salem to boston? and did you like living in salem? ive been doing a lot of research and it looks like a great place

Loved living in Salem!
I got to Boston on the Commuter Rail. My extra hour of sleep every morning and evening! Pretty much walked everywhere else. I lived on Winthrop St. so the train station was only a short walk.

Doable, but not easy. I'd want a car living in Salem (I live in Swampscott, a neighboring town).

Being car-less in Salem is doable if you live RIGHT DOWNTOWN. I lived in Swampscott, a neighboring town, and took the commuter rail into Boston for 4 years. I would never have gone car-less where I lived. Swampscott is a tiny little suburb on the south side of Salem wedged between Salem and Lynn, and while it's quaint and charming, it isn't especially far from Boston or downtown Salem, but it still was a suburb where I definitely wanted a car. I realize Swampscott isn't Salem...but unless you are living on top of the commuter rail in Salem, I wouldn't go car-less.

But btw, I love love love that area!!! Salem, Swampscott, Marblehead and Beverly are all so beautiful -- I miss the north shore.

I know there is a "Salem witch". I've seen her around town, though not recently.

Seems to be. I was just there and there were a number of Wiccan and New-Agey businesses.

Also, to the OP: I know someone who lived in Salem until recently and only used her car for big grocery runs. She took the train into Boston every day; however, she lived right downtown. Not sure how doable the South Salem/Salem State area is without a car, but maybe someone else can speak to that.
