Hello, we will be renting a house in Middlefield for a few days in late November. We are a family of 5 with the boys ages 8, 5 and 1. What would you suggest we do? Surrounding towns, great parks, kid friendly eateries, museums, attractions, walking trails, fun shops? Would even be interested in side trips to Vermont or CT if there is something we have to see. Will there be snow on the ground? Thanks in advance!

I had to look on the map to see where that is, I have lived in MA for 33 years and I had never heard of Middlefield. How did you choose that location as your vacation destination?

Northampton is less than an hour away to the east and I would recommend visiting there. Additionally, the town of Lenox is under an hour to the west and is quite charming.

By late November it may have already snowed in the region so bring appropriate clothing. Nothing worse than walking around cold or with wet feet!

Thanks for the reply. We chose it out of necessity. We prefer renting a house rather than a hotel room due to the kids. We wanted to be near Northampton/Amhurst area and there was not much availability right in one of those towns. This was closest for our dates. It seems a little out of the way, but we thought it might be nice. Anything specific you would suggest doing in Northampton/Amhurst with kiddos? Thank you.

Chesterfield Gorge is worth a visit. You can walk down the dirt road beside the river for miles.
