Hello,

Has anyone commuted from Haverhill to Newton in rush hour? It says about 45 minutes without traffic. . . I was wondering what I can expect with traffic.

Thanks!

Probably 1 hour and 45 minutes.

That's an ugly drive. 495 south to 93 south to 128 south to the Mass Pike in to Newton or maybe 97 out of Haverhill to 95 south to Route 1 south in to Boston and then the Mass Pike out to Newton.

I don't think it could be done in 45 minutes even without traffic. A buddy of mine is in Newton near Watertown and it takes me the better part of 45 minutes to get to his place from Lynnfield with no traffic.

Yep you're looking at 1.5 hours for a commute at rush hour. And you are going to be going 'with' traffic the whole way. Don't do it if you can avoid it.

Haverhill to Newton would be TERRIBLE. Haverhill to Woburn was awful enough, and this was back in the 90s when I lived in Haverhill and did the daily commute. 2 hours each day of completely wasted time. Ick, hopefully never again.

I commute from Windham NH to Cambridge MA (MIT), and the routine is to leave at 4AM, to make the commute an hour. If you leave at 7AM it takes about 2.5 hours.
Your commute from Haverhill to Newton will be rough... Not sure there is an express bus from Haverhill (which is the way to do it, as they have wi-fi), but we have one in Windham.

While dead, in case anyone else thinks commuting from Haverhill to the Boston area is a good idea...

Most of my extended family and a good friend live in Haverhill, I live in Medford. I make the trip up and down fairly often. Even driving up at 7PM takes at least 45 minutes doing 93 to 95 to 495. Recently, I fell asleep at my friend's house and left a bit before 7AM. I only *just* got to work in Waltham on time at 9 going 495 to 95 and taking 95 the whole way down.

I love Haverhill and wish I could live there (I'm a bit of a townie and you can't find a loft within reasonable distance from the city for much cheaper!) - but there is no way to make that commute work for anywhere within the 95 belt unless you really don't value personal time.

Had to jump in because I love the "townie" reference (anyone from Haverhill will know what I'm talking about). What I don't understand is the reference of going 93 to 95, then to 495 (what? to get from where, to where?) Anyway, regarding commuting from Haverhill, there's only 1 option worth considering: take the commuter rail and use the free wifi. North Station is the final destination, with lots of stops in between. Takes about 1 1/2 hours, but this is rapidly becoming the commuter option of choice...
