I'm looking to relocate and I spotted a house in Ashburnham that I like. Can anyone tell me about that neck of the woods?

I'm a single woman, 40-ish, who is a New Englander born & bred (so the winters don't scare me at all).

I've just never been out to Ashburnham MA.

Its about as safe as can be. Only place near it that has crime would be fitchburg, and even that's not bad.
Ashburnhams supposed to be a nice town, wouldnt worry about crime at all really.

What is it like to do business there? I talked to one of the building department people, and he said that he couldn't see any reason why I couldn't do what I had in mind.

What I want to do is start a small, home-based, cats-only boarding facility. Do you guys reading the forum think that sort of thing would work there?

Default Ashburnham Crime

Any crime is very limited. I am looking to move to the Tri Cites area of TN and when I checked crime rates Ashburnham it was next to nothing compare to TN. Moving.com: Compare Two Cities

Not leaving Ashburnham due to the area but for a job change.

Good luck.

Ashburnham is quite nice. The biggest threat to anyone's safety are moose, who might wander into the road from time to time. Beautiful backwoods town, not too farflung from "civilization," if you can call Fitchburg/Leominster/Gardner that...

Safe, quiet, a lake nearby. I do wonder if there'd be enough of a market for your business, given the lack of density of population. Probably a good idea to find a local association of pet-sitters (there must be one at least) and see where their market is and how it works. A friend of mine in Portland, OR, started a cat-sit service (she goes to the people's houses) and there are enough people in that urban area that they are going off for vacations, or are single people with cats who go out of town, people who travel, etc. She also belongs to some sort of "pet-sit" association, like a small business association.
Best wishes on your business.

The low population density of Ashburnham should not deter you from business, if you can actively market yourself in the dense areas nearby! Not too many people would just happen to find you, though, in Ashburnham.
