Ronnie, I can certainly see your point of view. Although I'm single and educated, I'm well past my "party prime", if you know what I mean I do expect that my children will leave and will hope they return, but won't blame them if they don't. There are many who do, as evidenced by the many families who have multiple generations living here year round.
Everyone has their reasons for leaving and returning, all are valid.

Cathy,
I know I may sound negative in my view of the Cape and in a way I am. I really don't think it's a great place to live and succeed if you're a single young professional. If you're raising a family, retired, or if your profession is in high demand on the Cape it's a great place to live. First off, being in your 20's, single, well educated, and white collar makes living on the Cape hell. At first it was great and I loved it but then I started getting really bored. I hope you encourage your kids to leave the Cape if they decide to go to college and want a white collar job. I don't see the Cape changing any time soon in this regard. I think it will continue to be mostly a resort community and not be a good place for young professional's to grow. I suppose if you're a Realtor it could be alright but it seems everyone and their mother is a Realtor on the Cape. I know so many Realtors on Cape Cod and was actually one for a while myself. I found it very hard to get listings and I found people to be very narrow minded. Most Realtor's on the Cape are very unprofessional. I used to wear a suit everyday and then I realized that people on the Cape don't respond well to this. They would rather have someone who wears Hawaiian shirts list their house. What agency are you affiliated with? I probably know people you work with.

Ronnie, the rule of thumb is: "You can't spit on Cape Cod (or many other regions throughout the country) without hitting an Agent. Distinction here: Not all Licensed "Agents" are "Realtors". Doesn't mean they're not good at what they do, but the designation of "Realtor" requires some additional effort, education and money.
I work with Rivet Realty, a relatively new "corporation" but not a new "Name" on the Upper Cape. I began with Lynne Rivet eight years ago, and learned the nuts and bolts as her assistant. She is, arguably, one of the most knowledgeable Broker/Agent/Realtors in our market.
When I became licensed I was able to "hit the ground running". Since then, we've been through a couple of national affiliations but decided to go back to our own "brand name". Two of her daughters have since come on board, and one is now the Broker of Record. I love working with this family and they have my undying loyalty. Although my name isn't Rivet, I'm considered the "5th Rivet Daughter".
Although many call themselves a "team", we personify it.

Hi Cathy,
You must work in Bourne. I know Lynne very well and her daughter Stacy. Small world. Lynne used to be with ReMax I believe. You guys still meet at Sovereign Bank in Bourne to go on your tours?

Stacey is the Broker of Record now. And Sherry just moved back from the South and joined us! Lynne's still around but trying to pass the baton! Lynne's been through a few affiliations, but she's always her own person! She's trying to enjoy herself and take some time off after 25 years in this business.
Very small world.

So Stacey is running the show huh? I know they were affiliated with ReMax Bayside at one point. At least I think they were. I lived in Bourne for 8 years and just moved out of there back in September. I used to live across the street from the Gallo Ice Arena in Port of Call. I will miss the Chart Room and the Cape in general this summer if I don't come back to visit. I may go to the Nantucket Wine Festival in May so I'll hit up the Cape at least one day I'm out there if I decide to go.

Yes, we did Re/Max for a few years.
Port O' Call is still building.
Let me know if you come for a visit! The Chart Room at sunset is the best!

I thought so. Stacey is quite a character. I went to a few of the Bourne tours. Is the market improving? Port O' Call was a great place to live. I know they're still building back there as well. The Chart Room is great. The funny thing is, I never went there very often. This past summer I went there a handful of times but before that I would maybe go once a year. I'm not sure if I'll be back on the Cape this year but you never know. If I end up going to Nantucket I will hit it up. My mother was a Selectman in Bourne for a short while. I would say the place I hung out mostly in Bourne was Way Ho. I used to have a good time there. How long have you lived in Bourne? What village do you live in?

I read what some people have said about Cape Cod and I am very curious to what Cape Cod has to offer. My boyfriend is in the Coast Guards and could possible be stationed at the air station base in the cape. So we have started researching the area. We are a young couple (25) that love the outdoors, and we are definitely high energy people. Love going for hikes, bike rides, and basically like doing anything that involves the outdoors. I currently work as a Speech Pathologist in a private school, and we are curious to know if I could find work there, and if it is a place we should really consider moving to. We are both from New Jersey, however, he is currently in Alaska for the Coast Guards and we think he will be leaving in the summer time. I was just wondering if anyone had some valuable information for us! Anything will be of great help, thank you!

Ronnie, missed your response, sorry!
Market's getting better, but it always done heading into Spring.
I don't go to the Chart Room often and when I do, it's generally to have a glass of wine and catch the sunset. Way Ho has great food! I'm in my eleventh year on the Cape (no longer a washashore!) and I live in Pocasset near the Golf Club.
Call me if you make it back for a visit!
