I'd be using the cell phone within the Boston area. ie: no farther away than route 95

not looking for the fanciest phone.

just the cheapest phone with the cheapest minutes and that will reliable work.

any suggestions?

Not directly related, but was just talking to someone on the North shore with a TracFone. Sounds ok, except they were only able to get a 603 NH area code. Thought that was strange.

We use Net10. Costs us about $15/mo for 200 minutes (can pay more for more minutes or can get an unlimited plan). Can set it up to renew automatically each month so you don't have to think about it at all. Unused minutes roll over. Bought our phones at Best Buy and they've been great all around the Boston area. Can be difficult to get reception in Boston's old brick buildings--not impossible, but definitely worse. A year ago we could get any area code we wanted.

TracFone and Net10 run on Verizon so you'll have that coverage, Straight Talk is on AT&T (the older phones, and a few new ones are also on Verizon). T-Mobile has cheap pre-pay as well. Any one of them will give you good service wherever you go. Just stay away from MetroPCS!

Funny you mention pcs as it tanked a bit today

Tracfone is decent. Just don't expect smartphone stuff. Some can browse the web a tad (wap sites). Camera is OK. Others now have more realistic keyboards.

Is Boost Mobile available in Boston? They have a $2.00 per day plan, unlimited everything and you can pick the days you use it.
