The southcoast is very nice. Marion, Mattapoisett. All convenient to routes 95, 195, Providence airport which I prefer to Logan, etc. I liked Middleboro until they started this casino business. I have a personal preference for Cape Cod! I won't put any listings on here but you can email me privately if you want to look in the area. There are some beautiful homes along the coast there!

Yes Cape Cod is GREAT! However if you have young children, and a job..I doubt you could live in Cape Cod and commute to the city. Cape Cod is very quiet in the winter and full of older folks, and retirees. My aunt had a house in Centerville...very quiet there
I agree with a few posters- Acton seems to be #1 on my list..its a very beautiful town!! Also Sudbury, gorgeous town. Route 20 is an easy drive to 495 or Natick Mall. Didn't Natick Mall recently get a Nordstrom's?
Hopkington also a nice area. What about Westford (i think) that is the town

Default Check out Auburn, MA!

I would suggest Central Mass if you are serious about having to go ALL over Massachusetts/New England for business. Althought I would never move back (my old hometown), I would suggest Auburn right outside of Worcester. It is located at the junction of the Mass Pike (90) and Route 395, and it is only 45 minutes to Boston and Providence and a little over an hour to Hartford, Springfield, and New Hampshire. Of course, if you travel into Boston during rush hour, you'll double the travel time, but there are times going north from the South Shore where that happens too! Auburn has reasonably priced homes for sale (under $300K for 3+ bedroom versus $400K plus for towns closer to Boston with a lot less land), is right next to the big city of Worcester with it's many cultural opportunities, and still retains most of it's suburb appeal that I think you're looking for. My parents moved there from northeastern Mass back in the 80s for a job my father had at the time, and picked that town for similar reasons to what you had mentioned.

Good luck in your search!

Hopkinton and Holliston are excellent choices. Stow, Littleton or Bolton and Acton are all too out in the middle of nowhere for me. Nice towns, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Hi Eastcoaster. We live in Southborough, about 27 miles West of Boston. I love our town. Really great schools, nice little parks and a library, a very active mom's group, a good little rec department, a commuter rail into Boston, and we are next door to Hopkinton state park. My husband travels to NY/NJ quite a bit. We are right off the MassPike, and it takes him about 3 1/2 hours each way. He also has clients in Southern NH, and we have good access to the 495 for that. He flys out of Logan about once a week, and the trip without traffic is about 35-40 minutes, straight down the Pike. We are close to the malls, restaurants, and shopping in Natick/Framingham (about 15 minues) but we have a more bedroom/suburban feel here in town.

I agree with the above post, Southborough is also an awesome town, a bit expensive, too. I wouldn't go past 495 on the west, it is just too long to get into Boston. I really suggest you stick with Ashland (Hopkinton/southborough side), Hopkinton, Southborough, Holliston, Upton (getting a bit further out). You will get most for your money in Ashland or Upton of those towns. Ashland is a wonderful town and very convenient to highways if you're on the right side. The schools are great. Holliston also has excellent schools but is hard to get to and doesn't have easy highway access. Hopkinton and Southboro have great schools and is easy highway access. Upton is a bit further out but I've heard good things. I would rank in order from least to most expensive for real estate as follows: Upton, Ashland, Holliston, Hopkinton, Southborough. Although the last three are pretty close pricewise.

Good Luck!!

Is the polluted water cleaned up in Ashland? I have read a few posts that have warned people from moving there because of it.

I hope this isn't too stale a post...

What water problems in Ashland?

We are late twenties/early thirties with a six-month-old son possibly moving to mass. in the next few months. His job in marlborough, I'll probably telecommute for awhile but eventually go back to full-time in-office stuff. We're picking from cities.

So, is there a good reason to avoid Ashland, and does it apply to the surrounding areas?
