I love the iced over trees silhouetted against gray skies. But do I miss it? I'll embrace it when it happens, and it will, but for now... we enjoyed our lunch outdoors on Cape Cod on January 7th. What's better than that?

I miss the snow. And my dogs love playing in it. Now I am concerned about possible drought conditions later in the year. Don't we need to have snow cover to soak our lawns and decent snow acculumation on the mountains to replenish our rivers and streams?

Absolutely NOT! I'm still scarred from last winter. I think this year has been a MUCH deserved break from the white stuff. I'm good if we skip this year, especially after the October storm. I'm ready for Spring!

I would like some snow as it is very drab with bare ground, especially when cloudy. Also, snow insulates the ground and prevents freeze levels from going to far down in the subsoil. So farmers and those with orchards would much rather see the SNOW first before we end up getting frigid temperatures.

Yes, and not just here. The Plains States and Rockies are in a horrendous snow drought as well. This is a major problem for two reasons. For the Plains, snow acts as an insulator for the ground, trapping moisture and also some heat. Having no snow and then a major Arctic outbreak (which could happen) would be devestating, especially if it occurred in the early spring. For the latter, no snow = no snowpack = no drinking water for major cities.

Here in New England, snow is needed as well, for some of the same reasons as the Plains as well as for the ski businesses to stay competitive.

I'm more concerned about losing Spring-- which is already a luxury in New England. As nice as this weather is, I know it usually means other seasons will be pushed back. The last time it took a while to "get cold/have snow" (5 years ago), we had a cold Spring and a rather mild "Summer" with more rain and thunderstorms than a traditional Summer.

In short, I'd rather it snow now as opposed to playing "catch up" later, when I'm ready for Spring.
