I was reading online about a highway project that was going to widen RT 2 in Lincoln and Concord and a way to bypass the rotary. I recently drove to Concord and Lexington on RT 2 and did not see any construction. Does anyone know of this project and is it starting anytime soon?

It's been talked about forever, don't know about any firm plans or dates. That rotary is considered one of the ten most dangerous intersections in the state.
Down in south Jersey, where I grew up, they started having rotaries as a way to move traffic better. Last time I was down there in 2011, a lot of them had been eliminated, and back to lights and 4-way intersections, both for safety and less jam-ups.

The plan is to improve Route 2 gradually from Bedford Rd to the rotary (in that order). Crosby's Corner is actually much more dangerous than the rotary - a semi seems to tip over just about every other year. I believe they plan to make frontage roads from Bedford Rd going west so that people can still access the Cambridge Turnpike into Concord Center conveniently. The main road will be an overpass that cuts the southern corner a bit, straightening it out for safety (no lights). I believe they're planning to work on the rotary starting in spring 2013 (which probably means fall 2013 at the earliest - wouldn't be surprised if it's 2014 or later). Commonwealth Ave will be an overpass into 119 and Barretts Mill Rd. Between the removal of the two worst bottlenecks and extra inconvenience of exiting off Route 2, they predict that people cutting through West Concord will be reduced by 30% or more. Hopefully, they reduce the speed limit on Commonwealth Ave from 30 to 25 as well (there was a terrible accident recently where an elderly driver hit a family of three). They will also build an overpass for the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail just west of the rotary at the same time they build the Comm Ave overpass. Despite the high cost, all these improvements are desperately needed and will improve life for many people.
