How is working for Nordstroms
I am expanding my horizon's and I was thinking about taking a sales job in "Retail" OMG I know but it seems exciting to me. I love to meet new people and I've done the rest. Does anyone have any experience working for them? I may even consider going with them for Corporate work..One never knows?
Open's in Natick tommoro

Yes, I do. I worked in the cosmetics department in California, the second to open there. I don't know what retail experience you already have, but Nordstroms is very demanding of your time and expected 110%. If you do not meet your hourly, daily, weekly,or montly quotas, and everyone has them, three times in a row you are fired. It is run very well compared to any other retail store and there is room for advancement if you go above and beyond what is expected. The discounts are good especially on employee days, but you have to work nights and weekends and one a week come in early to change displays along with Saturday morning mandatory meetings at 7:30 am even if you are not scheduled that day. Of all the retail stores out there, they pay the best, look the best, and give the best in terms of customer service. The only area that pays hourly plus commission are cosmetics. The rest is draw against commission except maybe lingerie. Good luck!

thanks great info..
Wow... Well I did here that the reason they (up till now) have not Opened in MA is becasue there is not enough "Caliber" of workers to fill their stores. So much for MA being Snobbish! We suck at Retail I guess.. Well hummmm I thought it would be tough but not that tough..I already have a RE career I was was looking for extra money since things have slowed down here lately!

I don't think that's the reason since Nordstrom's has been open at Providence Place for years.

Prov. Place is not in MA
Hi Casey,
I and my credit card have ventured to PP many times, but they are not in MA. And my inside information tells me they did not feel that MA fit the bill as far as employees for sometime. I guess we have the money just not the "Caliber" to service their clientel!!

She's right Casey, this will be the first Nordy's for Ma. I hope what you have heard is not the case in terms of the right "caliber" of people. Consider the people that work in the Prudential Center that would love to work at Nordy's and not deal with parking, etc. in Boston. Sometimes it's just the process of meeting the demands of the store in order for them to be a key anchor in a mall. Same thing went on where I used to live in Thousand Oaks, Ca. Finally, after 7 years of negotiations, Nordstroms will be coming in next year, but not after taking out Robinsons and switching around Macys locations and updating the whole mall first! Go and apply now since they have tons of other people doing the same.

Oh, I know it's the first store in Mass. I disagree with the "caliber of people" explanation because the populace in Natick and surrounding areas is quite wealthy and well-educated compared to greater Providence. Just a look at the median income in the towns surrounding Natick would intice any retailer to locate a store there.

it's not the Caliper of shoppers, it caliper of sales help I did fill out their application the other day it was a personality test. We have new Agents fill the very same type of online application. If the numbers or answers are not in a certain bracket then they are not even called for an interview. Who knows they might not call me? And I know I am the "Caliper"!!! LOL! I love the Nordy's name! never heard that one...
Puddle I enjoy your post's always very informative!

You totally misunderstood what I was saying. By the way, the word is "caliber" - referring to the quality or worth of something.

I was going to say that (caliber) and it's Puffle, not Puddle but thanks for the nice words.
