Could anyone help me out please? I am moving to Massachusetts and will be working in Westborough. I am thinking of living in West Roxbury but I'm really not sure about the commute. Does anyone know whether the 128 South is bad during the morning and evening commutes? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You would need to take 95N to the pike to get to Westboro from West Roxbury. Are you thinking of Westwood perhaps?

Coming from West Roxbury to Westborough you would be better off picking up Rte. 9 in Newton and taking that all the way to Westborough, as you would be going against rush hour. Rte. 128 is murder in both directions (To you newcomers Rte 128 is synomonous with 95 in that area. Whether you are on I93 or I95 between Braintree and Peobody, most will call it Rte. 128).

+1, on this. I Lived in WR and made that commute all the time. This is the best way to go.

95N to the pike from West Roxbury? You'd spend more time going in the wrong direction than anything.

Don't do it. Obviously this depends on exactly where in W. Roxbury, and exactly where in Westborough, but if you're contemplating doing an inside-Rte 128 (95) commute out to 495, it is going to take you an hour plus.
Massnative71's post is right on, but even taking Rte 9 from 95 to 495 is slow. And although you're technically reverse-commuting, you get no relief going home: there are more than enough people heading east in the evening to make it slow and frustrating.
I used to live in Roslindale (one Boston neighborhood over from W. Rox) and go to Marlborough, and it's awful.

I would choose Westwood because it so easy to get to 128. if you find it too expensive Walpole is really a nice community very close to Westwood. I commute 50 miles each day to the North Shore and I travel down 109 to 128N each morning. I used to live in West Roxbury and found it more difficult in terms of traffic.

I used to commute from Brookline to Westborough. There is no good way to do this, because the distance is significant. If you don't mind an hour plus commute, that's up to you, but I didn't last long with it. The Route 9 advice is okay, but you will do better if you make at least some of the commute on the Pike (stay away from 128 at all costs). I'd recommend Route 9 to Natick, then the Pike from there to Westborough.
