Trying to plan for a new job, living near Back Bay station and working in Hingham. I had hoped to make use of the commuter rail or other public transportation, but as best I can tell, nothing comes especially close to south Hingham/the Derby St. area near Route 3? Aside from the parking difficulties in Boston, would this be an easy enough drive instead?

I live near Back Bay Station and commute by car to Braintree. The mornings are never a problem going south on I-93 (and I imagine Route 3 as well), but the afternoons are hit or miss. Some days it takes me 15-20 minutes to get home; other days, 35-45 minutes.

There is a bad merge around the Neponset Bridge in Quincy that slows things down on 93 north in the afternoon. Often there is more traffic heading into town than there is leaving town. I haven't figured out any sort of pattern for predicting how bad the traffic will be going home, but it tends to be worse later in the week for some reason. Overall it's not a bad commute though.

Since Derby Street is literally right at exit 15 on Rt. 3, I think it probably makes more sense to drive than take the commuter rail. I think the closest stop would be West Hingham, which isn't terribly close.
