Randolph is an unfortunate example of what can happen when the "T" arrives with a new station.
I moved from Randolph 10 years ago (just off South Main). When I left I could walk anywhere. Some lovely restaurants, architecture (check out Stetson Hall). It was a beautiful town. Then the mega theatre arrived along with the "T" and all the 'stuff' that goes with it. Chain restaurants, bars, crime, etc. I drove through there about a month ago and just wanted to cry.
Canton is still nice. One of my best friends lives there and has put 4 kids through their public schools. Swears by them. Canton does have a "T" stop but they haven't bought into the who 'commercial' thing like Randolph did. Nice suburban community and convenient to Boston.

BTW, Canton is on the other side of the highway and not on the same T line as Randolph so hasn't suffered the effects of the "Randolph Syndrome"

Try Braintree or Weymouth, Randolph and Holbrook are slowly turning into the hood....

I've lived in southeast Massachusetts for 30 years or so, and the urban problems have indeed been creeping south from Boston and Springfield in the last decade. With the possibility of a Wampanoag casino in Middleboro, one can only expect the problems to increase if the casino becomes a reality. What used to be sleepy rural towns with a significant agricultural base have become bedroom communities for commuters due to the extension of the commuter rail into Lakeville. The increased traffic on 495 and 24 makes the commute north a morning nightmare, and evening rush hour is worse. Mansfield and Easton are still safe--and pricey--and the schools are good, but stay away from Randolph, Stoughton, and even Canton.

I've lived in Randolph my entire life. I'm 61 years old and graduated from RHS in 1971. The town has become an embarrassment with it's school system. Urban kids come in from the city. Some to live , some to attend school, and others to commit crime. If it wasn't for Brockton, Randolph would have the worst school system in the South Shore. I recently watched the RHS graduation on tv. Just watching the students made me sick to my stomach. Total disrespect during the ceremony. The Headmaster and assistant headmaster were no better than kids. The headmaster was giving high 5's to some of the students when handing out the diplomas. The assistant headmaster wore a baseball hat and looked totally ridiculous. If this is who the students have for role models in Randolph, it's going to get even worse. Not to mention that Randolph is on the bottom of the MCAS food chain. It's schools are a joke!

No thanks for resurfacing this pathetic thread. I know people on here/in this state have gone off it when they tell you you better stay away from Canton.

A High 5 during graduation? That's how you measure how bad a town is?

Thanks for your opinion! Do you have anything useful to contribute?

I'm sure the students made you sick for a variety of reasons.

Meanwhile in real life, Canton is flourishing. You can't make up some of the comments that get posted on C-D.

Canton would have to be in good financial shape with all the large corporations such as Meditech, DD, Reebok HQ there.

I remember whole buildings that are no longer in the center of Randolph.
However, the plethora of traffic had long been there. All of those tough places had already been there for twenty plus years at my younger time.

I remember the garden center that the movie chain replaced.

The train station doesn't pull in an element.

Randolph has a different vibe than the one that you want. This is all. It has not changed much from 1996.
