Default House rental-Worcester

Hello,

I am reading many blogs about apt. rentals in city of Worcester. I read Worcester Telegram/Gazette better to find than from internet. This way you would more likely be dealing with private party renting their home, or do they also usually use Realtor? Realtor does credit checks etc? Do tenants still pay Realtor.....that is the way it used to be here. I had rental in CA...and Landlord had to pay Realtor % of yearly rent.

If, and key word is IF...I can secure employment here...would only rent house, 2 or 3 bedroom. Any recommendations....I know houses are for rent everywhere in city. I know best areas are...Tatnuck (west side), 01609...not sure where that is.

Nothing replaces going out and driving around. I am staying in Auburn, so that is what I will do today.

Please recommend surrounding towns for house rentals. I desire...like the rest of us; clean, safe neighborhood....not "hood".
I am coming back here from CA....my neighborhood is going down in CA....but I am used to safety and security of owning own home in relatively stable neighborhood. I am not trying to sound pompous.....just want to live in nice area.
Realistic rent; hopefully no more than $1500-$1600/mo.
I also have a dog.....I know that will lessen my chances.......and I do not blame landlords about that. It does however depend on dog. It is usually the little "yappy" dogs that do the damage....

So, to sum it up....when renting a house as opposed to apt. complex (no way) or unit in 2 or 3 family..
are you more likely to deal with property owner?
Also....is their a particular Rental group that could be recommended by anyone on this board?

I know that I am foreign territory here....I feel like I am going to go back to North Shore somewhere.....even though more expensive....may stress me to much coming into central MA...as the saying goes, better the devil you know

Thanks for any info..or words of wisdom.........maybe I will stop asking questions and follow my guts...lol.

You might also want to look at the neighboring towns such as Leicester, Cherry Valley (part of Leicester), Rochdale, Oxford, Holden, Paxton, and if you don't mind a little longer drive, check out Rutland. Whenever I rented in Worcester I always dealt with the owner. I also had a very difficult time finding a rental that allowed my dog.

I know you posted in another thread about getting a job before moving to MA and if you should use a MA address when applying. I moved out of MA a little over a year ago and had no problem finding a job in the state I moved to using my MA address. The key is to get the phone interview first. If they know you are planning on moving to MA, it shouldn't be a problem. I had several phone interviews and had a company that flew me down and put me up in a hotel for a couple of nights. Some of the places I spoke with needed someone right away, so it didn't work out. The place I ended up getting a job with had my position open for months, so they were ok with waiting for me to start.

Thank you MINIcoop;

The key is the job secured. I lived in MA before and had job history here.....thanks for info on towns also. I really liked Holden.... seems as soon as you get out of Worcester....into the country immediately. I am really wanting buy home here as soon as I sell house in Cali.....did not want to rent, but I think it is too much pressure to buy without being in area for awhile. So more exploring to do......
Also, I do not think rents are any cheaper in Greater Worcester than outside Boston (I mean for nice place), seems the real difference is in the buying.
