Thinking of moving to Ayer. So far it's the most reasonably priced location in reguards to real estate and daycare. I don't know too much about the town though. Any guidance would be appreciated. Specifically, schools and sports, but any more knowledge would help. Thanks!

Ayer has traditionally been the somewhat rougher side of the tracks from the more effete communites, probably a carryover from when Fort Devens was open. I don't know about the schools, except that they are likely less well regarded than the town of Littleton (next door) which is less well regarded than surrounding towns of Westford, Harvard, Boxborough, Acton, etc.

It's very well located to get to Rts. 2 and I-495. There is a good train into Cambridge/Boston. I wouldn't hesitate to live in Ayer with the possible question of school quality, but again, only as compared to much wealthier communities.

Good luck! It's all so pretty right now.

It has been several years, but Ayer was very nice, my children went to the elementary school and they were excellent back then. The proximity to things to do was wonderful, from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont. Though i must admit I don't care much for big cities I didn't go in to Boston unless going to the airport. Salem, Old Orchard Beach, I have very fond memories of the area. If it hadn't been for the cost of buying a house then we would have stayed there.
