Default Does your town need a frozen yogurt shop/hangout for kids?

My husband and I are looking for a location for our new frozen yogurt business. We are open to anything really, but prefer within the Eastern Boston suburbs. Our froyo concept is self-serve, with tons of rotating flavors and toppings, including healthy and not-so-healthy options, all highly delicious. We want to be a community hangout and a place to gather for parents with little kids, school kids and adults. We also want to be involved with the community we are in (via fundraisers, sponsorship etc). Would your town benefit from something like this? Let me know if you have any questions. I know I would have loved something like this in my town (Sudbury) growing up.

Thanks!!

A shop just opened like that in town. I believe it's called Swizzles. I'm not sure how they're doing. Personally, I strongly prefer ice cream over frozen yogurt.

I know you've probably got a number of places that fit the bill, but I think a place like this would do very well in downtown New Bedford.

I know what the stereotypes and preconceived notions about New Bedford are, but the downtown area is incredibly small business friendly and shockingly attractive (13 blocks are a national historic park). There is a very supportive small business community that's bound together by some pretty successful organizations like AHA New Bedford and Downtown New Bedford Inc. Of course there is an active CoC as well. Artworks is another 501c3 that works with downtown business.

In addition to that, UMass Dartmouth and Bristol Community College have campuses downtown. Many students live in the area.

Organizations like AHA and DNBinc really work to help small businesses establish themselves. Many downtown businesses work on emphasizing the youth community and provide creative outlets for children and adults alike. Commons restaurant, No Problemo, Celtic Coffee House, Pour Farm, Pier 39 and many others work with local art galleries, the university and the art museum in town to provide creative outlets for children in the community. Many restaurants also host budding musicians as well.

I think a Froyo shop would do incredibly well in the downtown area of New Bedford. Again, I know the stereotypes that are associated with the city, but I think it would be worth a look. You might even be surprised.

I find it so amazing that frozen yogurt has made such a great comeback. I remember when TCBY was the only game around. Was that in the late 70s or early 80s? And then, after a while, nobody cared about frozen yogurt.

And now it's back with a vengeance. I'm in Worcester and there are three -- THREE! -- frozen yogurt places just in my neighborhood! I love it.

They all follow the model that you're talking about -- self-serve, many flavors and toppings, no-fat or low-fat available. It's great!

Best of luck with your venture.

PS. Make sure that you have Red Velvet on tap at all times. Thanks!

LOL! If ever there was a time that she should have EVERYTHING that she wants, this is it. Take her. You don't have to have anything.

Agree with Irfox. New Bedford and the SouthCoast are ripe for business. It's unfortunate that many still view the area as down and out. I love it there. For the history and the culture. And it's very small business friendly. I know quite a few UMD students and my son will be a Freshman there this semester. Great opportunity for you. Best of luck!
