I know I posted earlier, but we're also looking in Worcester County. My husband and I don't have kids (yet) but we're looking for a nice starter home, preferably 3 beds, with good yard space and SAFE. Are any of you familiar with Millbury, Sutton, Grafton, Upton, etc? Thoughts? Our budget has gone down to 250k.

All those towns I consider safe another town I would add to the list is Northbridge I live in Northbridge and there are no areas I wouldn't consider safe a quick look on the MLS with your $250,000 budget and 3 bedrooms shows 12 properties currently available in Northbridge.

Definitely concentrate on Millbury and Northbridge on for three bedrooms on that budget. They're both solid towns with decent schools. Not top notch, but decent. I would give the slight edge to Millbury. Perfectly safe towns too. No concern there.

You won't find anything in Upton. Grafton and Sutton would be a stretch. Where will you be commuting? How big does the yard have to be? You might want to consider points west.

I think your best bet is to keep renting until you can increase your housing budget.

The Route 146 area will likely see continued growth but will never be overbuilt. A new market will soon open at 146 and Boston Road in Sutton. There is a Super Walmart at 146 and Whitinsville Road in Nortbridge. There are the Shoppes at Blackstone Valley in Milbury. The area is really convenient as it is a short ride to the Pike and Worcester and Providence is not all that far away (30+ minutes). There is still plenty of land not far off route 146 for homes. Many towns such as Sutton still have a very rural feel, especially west of rte 146.
