We need to purchase housing for a single woman in her fifties. She is interested in being in Plymouth county, needs to be in a low-crime area. She drives and has a car, but it would be nice to be near the commuter line into Boston/Providence. Anything from a one bedroom apartment to a very small house could be appropriate. We are looking to keep the cost as low as possible, since she is not entirely self-supporting. She will be 55 this fall. She is not on disability. Any suggestions as to where to look?

There is nothing in Plymouth County which is near the Coast Line(commuter line from Boston to Providence).

You can't have both.

You can have reasonable train access to Boston, but remember that the commuter rail shuts down early(10:30 pm last train). Forget about train access to Providence.

All of Plymouth County is relatively low crime when reviewed in the light of national crime stats.

Plymouth has the lowest prices but it is far. The train service to Plymouth station is even more limited than Kingston. Plus, you will still have to drive a fair bit to Plymouth or Kingston to access the train.

Rents are very high. A house purchase might make more sense. However, the quality of stock on the lower end of the price spectrum is not exactly value driven.

Most of the towns are not really that desirable. There are lots of problems with everything. Plus, nothing is really that near. Most people end up driving quite a bit to do anything.

I would recommend looking around Weymouth for a cheap apartment. You can probably find one of a quality similar to one as found in Plymouth for the same price. The rents are not that cheap anywhere save for places like Fall River in Bristol Co. Avoid Fall River!

Look in Rockland. There is an over 55 trailer park called Leisurewoods that seems nice for the price. The town is not exactly low crime but it's not overridden either. Most of the crime is drug related and it seems to effect those most that take part in that lifestyle. Like anywhere though it does spill over into the surrounding areas with break ins etc.

There is a commuter rail in Abington and a BAT bus line that provides transport to Walmart, Target and Stop and Shop.

Just avoid the areas around downtown from the intersection of Union and North Ave to Union and Market Street and behind the Calvary Chapel.

It is not really like a bus. It is a pick up service with VANS. There is a difference, which other people might know. The service is very limited. It stops no where near places like Leisurewoods or Beach St. People are not going to walk to this bus.

Um, yes. All of that is pointed out in the link to the BAT bus schedule that I posted. I also listed the 3 stores in Abington that the bus goes to- did that not imply that the service is limited?

It stops no where near places like Leisurewoods or Beach St. People are not going to walk to this bus.The OP also said the woman has a car and drives so a true "bus" service is not necessary but the BAT bus is a convenience that could be attractive for future reference. I don't assume that people won't walk to the bus. It is approximately .6 miles from Leisurewoods to the community center that the bus leaves from.

I don't think your finished your post. If Rockland is not a good fit, where are you suggesting that the OP look?
