Civilian housing relative to Hanscomb (Boston, Bedford: for sale, apartment complexes, houses)

Hi, possibly new job at Hanscomb AFB, would like an upmarket area within an hour, preferably minutes,commute of the AFB. T/Commuter rail to Boston a plus.

Old (even colonial) separate single family is good with fireplace (or potential therefor). Country-ish nice, or in a village with walking to shops / grocery / parks / activity. Prefer off street parking.

Thinking $1800-$2500 monthly, preferably purchase, or lower rent.

Think Bellevue or Point areas of Newport, RI. Presently living in 952 sqft colonial saltbox in Newport, which is for sale (15willowst.com). So small is good. Presently five minutes from previous job at Navy base, so close is good.

Initial review of threads here suggests Bedford, but I didn't see any old "real" houses, mostly new apartment complexes.
