Hi, wondering if we get until April 16 for submitting both State and Fed income tax?

What about the deadline for 2012 IRA contribution. Do we get until April 16 as well? Reason I ask is that I don't know how much I can contribute until all my tax calculations are finished.

Thanks in advance.

MA state tax is due 04/16; Fed & IRA are 04/15.

Really.... I was guessing Fed is 04/16 since post office are closed (not able to postmark on 4/15). So I better finish up.

I think you are right, Massachusetts has an extra day because of the Holiday.
I've heard that before, but I'm not 100% sure.

Just realize that doing an e-file right on the state website is free and pretty easy. No need to pay 19.95 or whatever tax softwares charge for efile. I double checked the results with Turbotax and everything is identical. Next year, I'll just find a free Federal Tax program and do the MA tax online, rather than pay for a Fed+State package.

dravogardo is correct, Fed tax needs to be post marked by midnight tonight but Ma. tax doesn't need to be posted until midnight tomorrow.

Why would the post office be closed? It's not a federal holiday. State and town governments are closed (i.e. libraries, schools) but post office and banks are open.

This was true the last time Patriot's Day fell on 4/15 a few years ago, but I believe the IRS gave MA a 1-day extension that year because of the state of emergency that was declared in MA. Unfortunately they aren't so lenient this year.
