Car insurance when renting a car in MA
I am going to rent a car in Boston airport. However, my current insurance is from Geico, which doesn't provide service in MA. Therefore, do I need to get additional insurance if I rent a car there? I am very confused.
New to this forum, but I find it very helpful. Thank you for reading and hopefully answering my questions.

I'd imagine if your insurer, Geico, does not cover you in the state of MA, then you'll have no choice but to purchase the required insurance through the rental co. in Boston.
Just a wild guess though!

Well, Geico doesn't WRITE policies in Massachusetts, that doesn't mean that they don't cover you in all 50 states. Why not just call and ask them what their coverage would be?

Just found out rental companies are required to provide liability, so there's no need to get another one.
Thank you Logic72 and CaseyB! I appreciate your quick respons.

You should call Geico and ask them. My car insurance company covers me for rent-a-cars wherever I am. I'm sure yours does to. I mean, otherwise, what? You can't even drive through the state of Mass? Doesn't make sense.

I don't have Gieco, but I use to work for them. This is how it works. Your Geico policy as long as it is full coverage will cover you on your rental car in Mass. If there was a accident or damage you would be responsible for the deductable that you carry on your Geico policy. You would also be responsible for what is called down time on the rental car. That is the time it is in the repair shop being fixed, your policy would not cover that. You can purchase just the LDW waiver insurance from the rental car company if you want to cover the down time. For everything else you are covered by your Geico policy on the rental. I never purchase rental car insurance, If I had a accident in it, I would know I was responsible for the $500 deductable and the down time of the car. I believe the down time would be what the daily rate of rental on the car would be and for how long it would take to fix the car. So if you want to walk away from any bills and you are more comfortable with purshasing their insurance, I recommend you only buy the insurance waiver that would cover the down time other wise you could be paying some $40.00 a day for insurance coverage and you don't need the total package of insurance waivers from them. You can call Geico and ask them to go over this for you. Hopefully you will get someone that knows the particulars on this subject and if they don't will research it for you. I think I pretty much covered it though.
