Default How to Impress in Plymouth?

Coming home for the holidays and want to check out Plymouth while we are there as a potential place to relocate if the chance comes to us (coming from Burlington, Vermont). Office would be in Boston but would be travelling around the South Shore communities for overall work and no real "set schedule" so rush hours are not that much of an issue. Wondering what are some areas that are must see's that would help get the overall vibe of the town. Seeing that it is so big, I want to avoid driving around aimlessly for hours going up and down roads. Is Main street worth a look? Any nice new/established neighborhoods worth checking out (some possibly having model homes to tour). Any secret places that the locals know of and want to share??? If Plymouth is settled on, housing would be sought in the 350K-400ish area. Also while you all are reading this, I would be open for any and all recommendations for other towns on the south shore....we are looking for a reasonable priced town in which you can get a nice home in a nice neighborhood. We like towns that have a flavor of their own with livable and walkable downtown areas and that offer things to do, places to see, eat and drink in, etc....mid 30's, no childred (yet) and one motivated dog!!!! In doing real estate searches covering the South shore area, Plymouth always comes up as the town that seems to have the most to offer in our range plus living on in a seaside community has always been a desire. Thanks in advance for the info

Any place in Plymouth is nice to live although if you want to be near the happening places stay away from Cederville and South Plymouth. The most happening place is RT3A going through the Center of Plymouth and the Waterfront, but in the winter the waterfront is mainly dead. Also White Horse Beach has a lot going on in the summer but it is also dead in the winter. I dont live there anymore and I only visit once every month or so, so all I know is that Manomet(about 7 miles from Plymouth center) has a lot of newer homes going up.

Default some information

If your interested specifically Plymouth I agree with the above post about manomet. I best buddy lives in manomet and loves it. Housing is relatively affordable. And there is a nice waterfront up that way.

If you thinking about other towns.

Hingham is nice a little closer to boston but still a bit to do.
Town of Hingham Massachusetts, Incorporated 1635

Duxbury is a good town. A lot of people on this board know Duxbury better than I do and I'm sure you going to get lots of responses about it.

Duxbury, MA

My home town ( I'm actually stuck in NJ right now but it still my town and all my friend and family live there so I visit monthly.) of Marshfield is nice in the Green Harbor and in the Hill sections.

Welcome to Marshfield, Massachusetts

There are some more very nice towns in the region but don't want to put to much on your plate.

Default South Shore Info

I agree with the other 2 posts - there are many nice towns on the south shore...I would recommend a drive from Cohasset down route 3A and check them out yourself. They are all different. While Plymouth is less crowded in the winter it is no way "dead" - the resaturants are all busy and it is still very active. With no kids to worry about for schools you can do much better price wise in Plymouth than most of the other towns. Good luck!

I LOVE plymouth! The resturaunts, the walks on the beach and a little breakfast place next to the Dynasty(chinese food place) that is amazing!! We lived in Middleboro on 2+ acres but just sold the house! We had horses and plenty of room to move around! I loved it there ..the commuter rail was right down the st which took you right into boston in an hour! Also, hingham, marshfield, scituate are nice places too and those towns just got a commuter rail which takes you to boston in 20 minutes..only thing is you wont get alot of land for your money as you would in plymouth or middleboro. Good Luck!

I love Plymouth. Your best bet is to start along the waterfront (Water St.). I just did a search of homes available within a 2 mile radius and there's a lot available there in your price range (and lower). It does get busy in the summertime, but if you live there, you'll be able to walk pretty much anywhere.
Plymouth is a huge town geographically so I'd start within that area and work your way out if you find that it's not for you.

Thanks all, looks like we will give the Plymouth tour a go next Saturday. Capecodcathy, can you send me the link that you used in which you can put perimeters on your search such as "2 mile radius" from Water street. Again this is only a possibility but after spending 6 GREAT years in Burlington we feel it is time to get back to family and close friends!

Yes, please don't move to Cederville, there's too many of you here already.
