There's an interesting article in the Globe today about commuting on the Greenbush line, Red Line, Harbor Ferry, and driving:
The great race to see if Greenbush rail is quickest line from Cohasset into town - The Boston Globe |

That's interesting! I still take the Greenbush over the red line though! I'm up on Beacon Hill so the boat drops off way too far away for me!!!

Cute and amusing article for public transportation geeks (that's me). Since the boat and commuter rail take about the same amount of time in transit, it really depends on which one you live closer to and which schedule works better for you. The rail also has more stations to make the commute a little easier for more people. Is that really worth half a billion bucks though?

The more folks on the rail, the fewer cars on the road; the less congestion, the less CO2 emissions.
you can argue the train isn't pollution free, but public transportation is really the way to go. |

The way I see it, we spent much more on creating roads than public transportation.
Big Dig = $14.6 billion Train = $ 0.5 billion. It seems the only way to make people think public transportation is when it hits their pocket. Survey says, gasoline at $3/gallon will still NOT deter them to take public transportation. Only if it hit over $5 will people change their mind set. We are still one of the worst city for carpool percentage. |
