I agree that Framingham and Marlboro downtowns are equally lacking. It's interesting, a lot of people moving here want a vibrant downtown with nice shops and restaurants to walk to, but there aren't really a lot of those around here. There are some pretty and quaint town centers but besides Wellesley, in the Metrowest there aren't many that fit the bill I don't think.

Do you know that the Walmart there is so much cheaper than Quincy/Weymouth and Abington? I have found that some of the products I buy here are about $3.00 cheaper in Hudson. I also love to shop at Price Chopper. Much better buys in the Metrowest.
Another great example of family oriented locals from Hudson.

Yes. Try Target in Marlboro. Things get mark down to 75% off much faster than Natick. No line.

I find Hudson to be a filthy town and the walking path has caused people on bikes and walking to think they can just step out in front of traffic at any point & don't have any rules of the road to obey.

My taxes went up another $300 last year to pay for that new high school and that really pisses me off. Pay for your own kids education. I'd rather pay for good, clean roads.
As I drove from Rt128 to Rt495 after snow storm, I find Hudson's ability to clear snow amazing. The only other town I'm equally impress is Wayland (where the school is never closed).

Higher taxes for school is always a fight between those who have school age kids and those don't. However, property value goes up much faster for those with good school. In the end, it may work out better when you sell your property and leave the state.

Filthy town... Hudson? I guess I look at it half full instead of half empty. When I drove through another mill town like Lawrence, I realized Hudson could be much worst. Only when people stop shopping at Walmart will the town (downtown) business grow.

I have to disagree with Chick....It is not a filthy town.
Instead of complaining if you see liter on the ground, bend over and pick it up. There are slobs everywhere in every town. Doesn't do any good to complain. We all have to do our part. Just my opinion.

Smarty.....do you have a business in town? I chuckle because I took driving lessons from Manny. He was great.

I used to live in Hudson, and now I'm in Newton. I have to agree w/someone else's comment about goods being cheaper in Hudson. Groceries and produce are cheaper at Hudson Hannaford than anywhere near where I'm at now.

Their schools are good -- not as good as some of the more expensive nearby suburbs, but still above average. Their test scores have been improving recently and I feel the newer residents who are moving in are young families who hold education as a high priority.

You get a lot for your money in this town, but it's somewhat inconvenient to get to Boston. It's halfway between Rt-2 and the Pike, so it's a hassle to get onto an East-West highway. All the people I know in town work as engineers along the I-495 belt and I only knew 1 person who commuted to Boston. Not sure where you'll be working or what your hours are, but It usually took me about 45 minutes to drive into the city on the weekends and 1.5 hrs during rush hour (2 hours if it's raining or snowing). It's around 1 hr 15 min into Cambridge if you take Rt-2 during rush hour.

There were lots of outdoorsey-type stuff to do in the surrounding towns and shopping nearby, but not much going on in town. The only activity I ever did in town was the weekly Wednesday night concerts at the town park during summers. There's also a beach on a lake, albeit a very small one.

I can't think of why someone would want to live in Hudson and commute to Boston, especially if not in a family with kids. It's not very convenient, and there's not much to do, as far as I can see. When I was in my 30s, living in Cambridge and becoming a technical writer, I interviewed once in Hudson (Stratus) and felt like I'd fallen off the edge of the known world. Of course, that's when I felt you needed shots and a passport to live west of 128...
Funny.....I moved to Hudson in 1973 after graduating from High School in Weymouth. It definately was a shock.
My Dad worked at Digital in charge of building the Maynard facility.
When he ever came home and said he was having a house built in Hudson we almost died.
We actually, at the time, thought that Cumberland Farms was the only store. It was rural. I worked in Boston and there was only ONE bus (Ritchie). It went from Northboro, Southboro, Marlboro. It would pick me up at the end of Hosmer Street and you never knew when you would get home.(There were no cell phones then and my poor mother would sit there and wait for me every day). I did not drive when we moved there. I did eventually get my license and drove 31 miles to Riverside every day.
When I got married in 77, I came back to Weymouth . It is so pretty up there but I am a city girl.
Unfortunately now most of the orchards have turned into housing. They are beautiful homes.
Pompasiticutt Farm (sorry about spelling) is gorgeous.

No I do not own a business in town.

I recently tried to get to barlunch... best fish+chip. But, they closed and the building was sold... oh well. Hope the new owner will improve it.

Just a quick note. You notice that Rt290 ends in Hudson? It was suppose to go all the way into Boston (like Rt90). I guess someone stoped it years ago. Can you imagine what Hudson would be like if that road goes right into Boston or even just to Rt95?

Smarty...If I am thinking of the same place, the new owner of the builing jacked the rent up so high the businesses weren't making any money and had to close.
Too bad..

Not talking about street litter, filthy in terms of drab, depressing and severe lack of road maintenance, and those are things I can't do anything about.

I'd rather see my tax money go to local road & scenery improvements, and a nice big dog park.

If it were solely up to me, I would not be here.
Hosmer (hosma) street in 77 huh? We may know each other?
