Default Do I miss Massachusetts???

Do I miss my beloved home state of Massachusetts???

You better believe it, as a matter of fact I am relocating there from the crappy state of Florida in 3 days 8/17/07. I have been here in Floriduh for the past 12 years, and I am going back HOME. I miss the cold, snow(Mainly at Christmas), the hills, pine trees, FRESH air, change of seasons, all of it. There is NO culture here in Floriduh, mainly it's the toilet of the United states(watch americas most wanted). Florida is now overpriced, underpaid.... Yes, Massachusetts in the Western Mass area where I am from, is exactly the same for the cost of living as Fort Myers, FL. 8 months of hot humid 90+ degree weather every day is not for me anymore.

I'm going to freeze my butt off for the first few months, but I'll get used to it happily.

I'm originally from Northampton , Mass., which will always be my favorite place on earth. I'll be moving back to North Adams, MA., it's going to be a bit different for me, a new area to explore, a small town. Though I know I will be much happier no matter where I am in New England!!!!

I grew up in Lynnfield just a short 16 miles from downtown Boston. I have been away from Mass for 14 years and I miss it every day. I love going HOME for a visit, and I would move back in a heartbeat. We live in Florida and are moving to Memphis TN in a few weeks. I hate Florida, the ocean doesn't have that salty smell I so love, the people are not nearly as friendly and friends are not nearly as loyal. There is no culture here, very little history and all around it was never what I wanted.
The sense of community you have in the small towns in NE is not here, in NE you have Yankee Homecomings etc. There is nothing like that here. You don't have the quality of the museums or shows. I won't even get into the love of sports that is so obvious in Boston........I miss the food, I miss the Italian Bakeries.......You name it I miss it. I especially miss Christmas Eve and the whole holiday season. The Thanksgiving Day football games, the family bbq's, Good Harbour Beach..........So much right at your fingertips.........The Beach the mountians, the city, apple picking in the fall........And YES I miss the people. I like straightforward people who tell you what they think.....I miss St Patty's Day........If I could be anywhere in the country I would be in the Boston burbs.........Oh and did I mention how much I miss Kellys??

Oh wow this strikes a chord with me! I was born in Great Barrington, but have not been back "home" since I was a teen and now I'm 60. I still think about my hometown all the time, the Berkshires always seemed magical to me and my heart never left. I've been stuck in California most of my life and the prospects of ever getting back to New England are bleak due to cost of living and relationships, if I could manage it I would relocate to western MA in a heartbeat! It's not that I have always totally hated CA, many of the years here were good (but the quality of life has really deteriorated in recent years), it's that there was always just something
so special about my little corner of New England I never could forget, I guess it is in my blood and bones? Could be I am remembering through the prism of time and rose colored glasses, Great Barrington wasn't much, even in the 50's. I keep track of the town online these days, no family there. I also lived in FL and the midwest and none of those places ever held a candle to "home". sue-z

In Florida, if you are walking down the street, other people will wave to you and say hello. When I step on a cross walk they will stop in most cases and not try to run me over. I would like to ask you please try an experiment, when walking down the street in Mass see how many people wave to you or say hello. I am not trying to say that everyone in Massachusetts is this way, heck I have lived here for good part of my life. I think there is something to southern hospitality and I wish we had more of it up here, it would do us good.
I walk around the campus at UMASSD and NOBODY EVER SAYS HELLO! I take a mental count. Somedays, I even get agressive about saying hello and I get nothing because they won't make eye contact. Unfortunately, the asian students are at the top of the list for no eye contact. It's really noticable. I find myself becoming less and less friendly, too.

Default Nahhhhhhh

I was born and raised in Mass 1955 - 1991. "Rt 128 now" like Jonathan Richmond & the Modern Lovers say in "Roadrunner". Do I miss Mass ??? Nahhhh. Don't miss that god-awful Rt 128 traffic. Don't miss those taxes. Don't miss corrupt politicians. Don't miss the Southeast Expressway.

I do miss that quick educated wit. I miss verbal sparring. People from other places don't get it. You do make bastard alliances with people from NJ and NY as they are somewhat from the same mold. Mid-westerners look at us funny and say "I don't get it ". Hey, we don't get why they follow college sports.

I do find myself listening to Boston talk radio on my computer just to get my Boston fix... I did that even when I was in NH.

NH that's another story, nice place - summer is only 2 weeks long. It's just spread out over 3 months.

West Coast of Florida....everyones from Ohio or Michigan.........ooohhhhh

I can't say that everyone is from there. Rt 75 comes from there and goes right through West coast of Fla.

All the NorthEast people are on the East Coast of Fla. (Rt 95)............

We fly our Red Sox flag on the front of the house like the skull and crossbones of a pirate ship.

You would get why "we" midwesterners follow college sports if you ever went to a college football game in the midwest or south.

I think I'd rather go to the dentist than sit through a boring baseball game.
