My husband is originally from the west coast (pacific NW). My husband is much more into college football than the pros. I think the quality of college ball in the northeast is just not what it is down south and out west and that's why people from those areas prefer college football.
I used to follow pro football until I moved out west for about 20 years. Now I have to say I side with my husband. I'd much rather watch a Pac-10 game than a Pats game.
Uh-oh, someone's gonna give me a hard time about that!

I think I'd rather go to the dentist than sit through a boring baseball game.

I thought this was a Mass. thread - how'd you get in here......
I used to race a motorcycle and went around the country a little and made good friends. Had some friends that were all hyped-up to get back for a Ohio State game. I didn't get it. Someone from Mass. would understand that. We only have a lot of small colleges.
I was in Buffalo area playing snare drum with a marching group. They used to ask me "next time you come bring some fried clams". They were serious and I had to explain that you couldn't do that, they wouldn't taste right.

My question is since the taxes are higher in New York and less in Ma., does it equal out for the same type of property? Has anyone been to Pittsford or Brighton, NY and can compare it to smaller suburbs in Ma. near Boston? If we move to Pittsford will I be sorry I didn't move to the Boston area again? We are a family of three w/a teenage boy going in 9th grade...my husband is self-employed but wants to grow his business by opening an office in or near a city and currently stay home and take care of four dogs and my son when he gets home from school. We love to walk close to home to shops, restaurants, community activities but not too far from a city. I know I've asked before but I need all the advice and experience from others as possible. Oh, we currently live in So. Cal.

I grew up in SHortsville/Manchester, NY and have a ton of relatives in Pittsford.

You guys must think I am out of my mind! Well, after all this time of looking, I think it's true. This post was last year when we were considering being closer to Va. than Boston. I loved what I read about the Pittsford area but my husband did not want to have an office in Rochester nor deal with the harsh winters. After considering all options, we always come back to Boston.

Hard time No. You speak the truth. Colleges here focus on educating our youth. Some of the colleges down south and Midwest would rather have a good football program than education.

Puffle, I thought about moving to Cali at some point but after seeing the threads over there no way. I've been to Boston many times and thought it was wonderful. Plenty to do and the people there have been friendly. I was born and raised in Florida. So maybe some people see Bostonians as being rude but definitely friendlier than in Florida. Plus I'd be closer to excellent medical care. The only thing that hold me back is the winters. Do not know that a Florida cracker could tolerate sleet and snow but it has to be better than Hurricane season 6 months out of the year. I should have left after I had to suffer through Andrew back in the 90's. I've been to Mass three times this year alone. I love it and cannot stay away. I think the move is coming soon.

Have the best of both. Florida December - April (yes April stinks too and it has snowed!) Live here May -November. That's my plan even with my 11 YO. She will be better off with a happy mother year round ... then an unhappy frozen one.

Hi Florida, If a Californian like me can take the winters than so should you. Nothing more beautiful than the first snow to a girl use to constant sun. Personally, I think I acclimated to the winter because I am always warm and enjoyed the cold for a change. I also enjoyed the change! California's weather is pretty predictable which to me, gets very boring. The only unpredictable thing about California is when the next earthquake will hit. The California threads are probably some of the most negative on Citi-data,most of which I agree on. If you have a family, I think that New England and most of the East Coast is a much better environment to raise kids than California especially since Ca. schools are the worst in the nation, particularly L.A. Hope you find the right place for you.
