You know, we do miss things about MA. One, all of our family is there. Some other reasons are the four seasons, Fenway, certain foods, beaches, etc. It just got too expensive for us to deal with. We do like the extended summers in the NC piedmont, as well as the hospitable southerners. MA is a good getaway for us

After living in Raleigh for a while, I wouldn't really recomend it like the top 10 list have. I am in in Massachusetts now, getting cold again, today in the 40's , I love it here but the best place is in Cambridge or Boston , but it has become to overly priced for rents, car insurance, and job wages have been falling since 2001. I love it there, but can not afford to live here anymore, thats why I am trying to find somewhere that you can still live in this age of outsourcing jobs to other countries and leaving the majority of jobs in the us as low paying, there is no more middle class. So I keep reading and researching differant parts of the country for somewhere that might be a fit.
Best of luck to all ~

I never realized how much I would miss Ma. untill I moved to the God awefull state of Georgia. "Southern hospitality"??? That's what they call it but I've met more back stabbing, dishonest and rude people in my three years here then I ever knew in my 33 years of living in Worc. Ma. I do have to admit we can be rude and sometimes unfreindly to people outside of our "social circle" but we're honest with our opinions and speak them openly. People who meet us get to know who we REALLY are. That's probably the biggest thing I miss about Ma. Down here everybody is real freindly showing their "southern hospitality" untill you walk away. They're quick to judge people by what they wear, how they speak, what church they belong to, ect... I guess I just took for granted our liberal ways up north and makes it real hard to "fit in" down here. I'm sorry for all of you who hate Ma. but if it's that bad do what I'm doing........MOVE! If it weren't for my husband not physically being able to deal with the cold weather I would be back in Ma. in a heartbeat. We're headed to Jacksonville, Fl. in two weeks and can't wait to get out of here and back to a big city where people are more open-minded and aceptable of who somebody really is. For all of you who still live in Ma....never change.
Your GREAT people. By the way, I would do just about anything to get some good fish & chips or pizza right now but that's a whole 'nother topic.

Great website, thanks for posting it. However, I looked up MA and it has 36 superfund sites. 4 are cleaned up already, 1 is proposed for the list.

Now I looked at NC and they have 32 sites, not a whole lot better!? And only one is cleaned up already. So they actually have about the same number of sites that are still toxic.

Guess we have toxic sites all around us, no matter where we are. check out some of the other states... .New Jersey has 140 (!!!!!!) total sites. only 22 of those have been cleaned up. Yikes!

Yes, that is my point. People have no clue how many toxic sites there are in the US. What we don't know CAN hurt us. I know there were 4 in my close area in MA but I had no idea how many there were in the rest of MA. NC is a much larger state than MA so having 32 sites compared to 36 when you look at the size of the state is quite a difference!

Luckily where I am looking to move in NC there is only one I have to worry about and I will not move close to it.

I won't MISS the toxic SuperFund Sites in my area!!!!!

I live in South Florida (Ft. Lauderdale area)...I, like everybody else in this state just about, can't wait to get out. As for New Englanders not being friendly..who cares? I live where people get offended if you don't acknowledge them and ya know what? It's really annoying. I plan to move back to Mass and frankly looking at the housing market there...its not too bad. Come to Florida and deal with Spanish 24/7..creole/patwa/hindu and every other nationality that you can think, but only wants to speak with you in their language and gets mad when you can't. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Mass people may look like they all hate each other, but they always seek each other out in different states. I personally can't wait to get back to my beloved state of Massachusetts.
Right on! I was born and raised here in South Florida. The people here are extremely rude, hurricane season is 6 months out of the year, the only season is summer, crappy drivers (driving in Boston is a dream compared to here), Spanish is the official language, the jobs don't pay anything here, inflated housing prices (including taxes and try getting homeowners), the list can go on and trust me the state income tax here is coming. I've been coming to Boston for 7 years and think Massachusetts is wonderful. I can't wait until I move. Harsh winters beat hurricane season (5 in one year in 2004) and extreme heat 10 months out of the year.

Default Yes, yes, I miss MA

I moved to Florida from Massachusetts 9 years ago, and I'm ready to move back. I miss the diversity of age (the elderly dominate here). I miss having access to great museums, music, art. I miss walking in the woods and seeing the leaves change. I miss the activity of Harvard Square.
However, the weather here can't be beat. Interracial relationships are much easier. People really are friendlier...you always say "hi" to everyone. And everyone makes eye contact. But the jobs are all low paying, part-time or temporary. The cost of living is out of control. Development is rampant.
I'm looking forward to being back among the ambitious and intelligent.

Oh I agree. (The whole, not missing something until you lose it.) I dearly miss Mass.
I moved to Canada when I was 14 and I've been here ever since.
It's just not the same.
But honestly, I face tons of discrimination here, and it's strange because you think of Canada as being so liberal, but no, it's tons worse.
It also feels like I'm living under a rock in Canada since it never gets involved in world affairs, and I have no idea what is going on with the world.
Also, Massachusetts is the only state to have gay marriage, which makes it seem way more acceptant on issues overall. Plus I support Deval Patrick.
