We're in Worcester, too, which I have liked overall--but would really like a lower cost of living!

I'm back in Boston right now (on year 5), after living all over the states for many years - PA to Atlanta to Seattle to L.A. to NC & I agree wholeheartedly with Chris & Miker, that I don't miss it when gone. As soon as I cross over the border when leaving MA, my entire body relaxes, I don't have headaches/asthma or feel constantly aggitated by the overly loud voices, lack of/competitiveness with urban parking, loudness of the city with its layer upon layer of noises, the dirtiness, or the rudeness of residents.
Is it my imagination or do folks drive around with their hands firmly depressing car horns at every intersection? Is it me, or do people talk too loud & too often & too negatively for no apparant reason? Is it me or is this one of the dirtiest, ugly cities in the U.S.? Is it me or does every nationality dislike every other nationality here? Is it me or is no food affordable here?
It certainly depends on where you lived/grew up in MA, but for this inner-city dweller, I certainly can't wait to leave again, within 6-mos. I've lived here off & on for 20+ years & never look forward to returning in the times I've had to, even though I live 3-blocks from the ocean & can see it from my window. That & the fact that Starbucks is creeping in little by little onto street corners are my saving graces.
I have been to surburban MA locales & like any other state, the suburbs/country/small towns are always lovely. No matter how annoying the accents... Yes, I'm way past my time to leave. I cannot wait!
Hold a good thought for me please. My head hurts... Baltic_Celt
Thank you. Whine over...

No, it's not just you. I was born in Memphis Tennessee, lived in st. louis till I was 8 years old. I have lived here in wilbraham MA for 14 long years. I can't wait to get back to Missouri where I lived. The game plan so far is a little after easter me and my familiy are out of here.

I miss it once in a while. I am in general tired of the Northeast. I hope to move to San Diego soon. Jersey reminds me of Eastern Mass, though I grew in the Western Mass area.
Everytime I go up, my wife drags me to Yankle Candle.

I am proud of my Massachusetts heritage. Born in Attleboro and raised in my teens in Calif. retired in Miss.. Yes, I miss where I was born. I think that is an inate--it is where my history is, ancestors lived and died. Always a part of me there.

I've just moved to NC after 15 years of living in boston area. I was really getting tired of the rat race when i lived in boston. Everyone seemed to be busy making a living and no time for anyone else. But now I've moved, I really miss Boston, because Boston had history, Boston had certain level of class, boston had architecture, fine museumes, great restaurants, people from all over the world, it had a subway system and sidewalks and parks everywhere. these are all the things most of small/medium sized cities just do not have.

Living in Massachusetts
I soon will be packing my bags to leave Massachusetts. I was born here and will be leaving at age 39. I will not miss all the rude and impatient people who I have come to know, many people in New Hampshire call us Mass holes and they are correct. How many times do you see people in this state waving at you and wishing you a good day. Never!!!!!! When we are approached by others we tend to look at the ground and keep walking, never saying any words or expressing any emotions. Here is one for you, try dating in this state. I have found it to be very hard because of our conservative nature in Massachusetts, when women come across a very fun and out going guy they have problems with that personality. I find that people who love Massachusetts tend not to be adventurous in their ways. Well, I have to finally get out and experience life.

This is funny... I am moving from MD to Ma at the end of March and have found the people there to be MUCH friendlier than the people here, in the suburbs of DC.... we are moving to the Worcester area, about 20 minutes from Worcester itself. Can't wait to pack up and go :-)

I second that. I lived in No. Virginia and grew up in So. Cal and found the same and maybe after you have experienced the "way out" cool people of So. Cal, you would have a deeper appreciation of a little conservatism that you speak of in Mass. like I did when I lived there.
