Cost of Electric bills? (appliances, house, calculation)

I know this is a random question but what is the typical winter electric bill in the winter for a home that is approximately 2000 square feet? I pay around $300-$450 a month? I know a lot of the homes are heated by gas or oil does it average out around the same?
Next question is during the summer? Mine between $300-600

Just wanting to see the difference if any!!!!

I didn't know there were any homes in Massachusetts that were heated with electricity. It is exhorbitant. Comparing one house to another is a lot like apples and oranges, too. I keep the heat at 68, have an older house of only 800 sf and pay a total of of $1500 a year for oilheat and electricity which uses two window air conditioners in the summer.

That 68 is considered extravagant by my neighbors, some of whom are down in the low 60's most of the time. I do my best to keep the windows well covered at night, and use energy efficient appliances, compact flourescent bulbs and only use the heated bathroom tiles when needed.

My house was built in 1920 and needs further insulation which I plan on adding next year.

A friend of mine has two of these heating units in his house. Both are in large open rooms with tons of windows. He tells me they pay for themselves in one season or less. They're best for supplemental use in the 1-2 rooms you use the most, allowing you to turn down the whole house thermostat to 58.

The "Frost King" window kits can really make a difference. If you take the extra time to install them correctly they can essentially be invisible.

My friend had a house 2000 sq ft 10 years ago, he was paying $400/month during the winter for heat when I was paying less than $100.

Do you think this would still be the case now, with oil being over $3.00 a gallon? Electricity has gone up, but not as much as oil?

Cost per million BTU is still much higher for Electricity.
