The I-95/128 & I-93 interchange on the Woburn/Reading Line is the busiest interchange in the state. It's also the most poorly designed and outdated interchange I've ever seen in anywhere in the country. It causes very long backups at rush hour, merging is hazardous and scary, no room to accelerate as ramps are very tight and there are no auxiliary lanes for exiting or merging. What makes it even worse is on 95/128 there are busy exits for Route 28 and Washington Street within a 1/2 mile on both sides. It's just the worst.

Will the Commonwealth ever get serious about redesigning it with flyovers and added auxiliary lanes? I know there isn't a lot of room as property abuts it so I wouldn't expect an LA or Dallas style freeway interchange, but something desperately needs to be done.

Where did you get that from? All the interchanges involving Rt-3, Rt-1 and I-93 are actually busier based on traffic counts. There are also many identical or even more poorly designed interchanges which cause even longer backups during rush hour. Have you driven on every interchange during rush hour or are you just imagining that the one interchange you drive on a regular basis is the worst in the state? I think MA has been getting better in recent years as they have been experimenting and redesigning certain interchanges, such as the Pike West to 128 North this year as well as many exits on 128 on the North Shore. But as you said, it's tough when there's not a lot of room to work with.

Can't imagine anything happening. I would be seriously opposed to any actions that cut into the Blue Hills property at all.

The Blue Hills property is not in Woburn and Reading.

Okay, my bad. I was studying some data on this from about 2-3 years ago and I remember the busiest interchanges were Rt-1/I-93 around Quincy and Boston, and also Rt-3/I-93. I didn't read the website, but I guess your data is newer.

I can't imagine any new flyovers being built. MA seems to be trending towards tearing down flyovers to create street-level interchanges because they are more aesthetically pleasing and don't cut neighborhoods in half.

Yes but again this is the busiest interchange in the state, and it's in the suburbs at the junction of two very busy interstate highways, not exactly the league of street level, and not an urban renewal project. According to MassDOT the interchange handles 375,000 vehicles daily on weekdays!

In terms of aesthetics well lets be real as this is a highway through Woburn which is heavily commercilized and there isn't anything adjacent to the highways in that area that could really be aesthetically tarnished by flyovers. A new modern interchange would certainly be more aesthetically pleasing than the current one. Even Providence, RI upgraded its 195/95 interchange recently with modern flyovers and it looks great.

Ok, I'm not picturing where this is then, obviously.
