My profession is administrative assistant. I live north of Boston and am familiar with the clusters of various industry on the north shore/metro west. Examples include Woburn, Wilmington, Andover and Tewksbury along 93 North. Along 128 south Burlington, Lexington, Waltham; 128 North Peabody Danvers.

I can ply my trade almost anywhere. I've worked at private schools and universities but am also interested in biotech, pharma, software etc. Mostly medium sized to larger companies that tend to pay better and have better benefits rather than Mom and Pop or smaller places.

My question is, while I am familiar with the above clusters, where on the south shore is industry like this located? I am thinking of the Plymouth area for a home search and wonder how far I would have to go for a job. What companies are located south of Boston or where are the clusters of industry?

Thanks!

Big tech between the Canton split West to 495 includes Analog Devices, Covidien, Waters, Siemens, Meditech. Blue Cross Blue Shield is HQ'd in Quincy. Retail giants include Talbots (Hingham), Dunkin Donut (Canton), Reebok (Canton). Ikea in Stoughton could have office jobs, and there are all the colossal automobile dealerships along the auto-mile that undoubtedly could use someone with your talents.

There's a large office/light industrial park, I just can't remember the town it's in, lol. Norwell, Rockland?

Also, if you're ok with driving as far as Mansfield, there's a huge one there.

Braintree/Quincy, Canton, Avon/Stoughton. Plymouth has 2 industrial parks, but not sure what type of industry exists there.

Thanks for the replies thus far. Does anyone else know the names of any mid to larger size companies on the south shore within commuting distance from Plymouth? I recently came across EMD Serona in Rockland.

Anything else? Or any other concentrations of industry where I might find an admin assistant job when the time comes?

Thanks!

There are plenty of office parks on the south shore but it can depend as to what industry you want to find.

There's hospitals (south shore, Toby, Brockton), schools (Bridgewater State University, Quincy College, Massasoit etc),

If you are thinking of living in Plymouth that could be a tough commute because you would most likely have to take Rte. 3 to get to work in any of the towns already mentioned. I live in Braintree and used to commute to Plymouth to work. It was a reverse commute so around 30 minutes for me which (for me) was great! The traffic coming up though was always a crawl and is only 2 lanes. Which exit in Plymouth would you live off of? You might be able to find something in Plymouth or if you don't mind working later hours maybe South Shore Hospital in Weymouth? Braintree has some office parks...Braintree Hill Office Park, there are some offices up on Grossman Drive, and Harvard Vanguard there. Quincy has a lot of offices...in North Quincy there is State Street and there are some offices in West Quincy where Ameriprise is.
