i was wondering what neighborhood the area just to the east of st. michael's cemetery is in. the area bordered by the cemetery, boston rd, and breckwood blvd.

any thoughts people have about that neighborhood in general (safety, how well kept up it is, how walkable it is, how a commute to northampton would be) would be great.

and if there is a springfield booster on this forum, please talk about why you like springfield! all i ever hear about it is bad things.

It's officially called the "Pine Point" neighborhood

Pine Point, Springfield, Massachusetts - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

City of Springfield, Mass.: Pine Point

It's . . . perhaps not as bad as many other areas of Springfield, but not as decent as some others. (Sorry, not one of those Springfield civic boosters you were looking for . . .)

Commute to Northampton would prob be about 30 minutes or so.

Springfield has seen better days. On the plus side, my sense is they've halted their decline. Does that count as a boost?

Let's see...It's got good access to Hartford. Wait, is that a good thing or a bad thing? Both?

More seriously, it's in a pretty part of the state, with convenient access to the Berkshires, several very nice towns in the Pioneer Valley, etc. While not world class (by any stretch of the imagination), there are some decent eateries downtown. If you travel to NY frequently, particularly upstate, it's a good location for doing so. Also convenient for accessing CT or southern VT. Housing is relatively affordable, as MA goes. So that's a plus, right?

If there were more jobs, personally I think a lot of the issues would sort themselves out. Most of MA would still look down on it for being outside the metro, but such is life.

The houses are affordable in that area of Spfld. The city is high in crime, but not everywhere. Google online crime map for that area and see what kind of crime.

Springfield needs help. Apparently the new casino is going in there. That may make things worse in the long run, hard to say.

OP, do you have a job lined up there?
