Can't beat a cup of tea, the laptop, a cheesy sci-fi movie, and cuddly dogs on a night like this

As for snow removal, we park the Jeep as close to the head of the driveway without blocking the sidewalk. Less snow to shovel
We got at least 20in of snow. Bh left at 4 am to plow. He only plows a small group of people, doesn't want
The responsibility of more.
A friend paid for each time the driveway was plowef(someone else). Astronomical price!
We went to check on horses in Ipswich and unbelievable white out conditions

It's brightening up here. Still have power but can't see much out our east facing? windows because of snow stuck on them. The next 5 hours will be interesting in regard to flooding and erosion. While we don't worry about our home being flooded we have very vulnerable dunes at the end of our road. Last year everyone lost their beach stairs and the dune system was compromised. Downtown at the boardwalk and Town Neck beach area is expecting major flooding.

Just commuted 30 miles to work again. The roads are....well....drivable at least. It seems that the roads where there is 1-2" of standing snow offer much better traction than those scraped down with a thin "film" of snow on top. Braking on that type of surface is ABS chatter.

My 30-mile drive in was pretty uneventful other than a few people forgetting it was snowing and deciding they had enough time to pull out in front of me. Rather than wait the extra 10 seconds for me to pass, they just pull out and probably don't even notice me trying to avoid rear ending them while they creep out at 2MPH.

Office is a ghost town....

Happened to me a couple times this morning too. I just swerved around them and blared my horn since traffic was very light today on the local roads. The bad thing about driving with snow tires is that while I'm driving my normal 50 in a 45, others are driving 20 mph and I get very impatient.

Glad you got there safely! Your second paragraph is the reason I stock up and hole up during a storm and a few days later. The morons who don't know how to drive when the roads are slick or who think their AWD or 4WD makes them indestructible. I drive a big SUV and people in little cars were whipping past me as I was going 40 mph on route 6 yesterday.

Please don't lump all the "fast drivers" in 1 category. I know everyone generally thinks they can drive better than average, but I really do know my car's limits. I've had it dyno'd, track-tested and rally-tested. I also take driving courses for fun - both for general handling and for snow and ice driving. If I swerve around a car that turned onto the road in front of me it's because I felt it was safer to pass than to slam on my brakes. Obviously AWD and snow tires don't make you invincible - I actually missed my turn into the train station this morning because I felt my car losing traction as I was about to enter the turn. Instead I kept on going straight and made a U-turn to safely make the turn instead of sliding into the station parking lot which would've been more fun!

How odd. I drive a little car and USUALLY it's the big SUV's that are flying down the road as if their AWD makes them indestructible in the rain and the snow. And from my own personal observations, the most commonly seen off the road and/or flipped over vehicle is an SUV.

I agree do though that people with AWD vehicles tend to drive like morons.

You felt your car losing traction. Proof positive you were going too fast for the conditions.

Even if your vehicle is the best vehicle available for these conditions (I have no idea what all these tests you have put your car through are or why they would be performed) you can't predict what some idiot in front of you will do that will cause your performance vehicle to crash. Careful, defensive driving is a better plan.

And don't take my comments so personally. Just sharing my observations from yesterday on the roads.

Yes, i experienced the same. I was trying not to be a jerk to the "creepers", but being on snow tires, there were some times got a bit impatient. I still was courteous to others and didn't do anything stupid. Last thing i'd want to do is tailgate someone who's nervous and push them into making a mistake and getting into an accident. When i could pass safely on the highway, or a legal two lane road...i did.
