As a long time former resident, years back many referred to anything north of Boston and east of I93 (old Rte 28) to be the North Shore. I have heard places like Stoneham, Danvers, Reading, Andover, etc. referred to as the North Shore. Same as many consider anything south of Boston and east of Rte 1 to be the South Shore.

One could split hairs and say if it does not have a shore line it is not "Anything Shore". Geographically they would be right but those type also argue South Boston should be called East Boston and East Boston should be called North Boston and the West End should be called....whatever.

For some reason it amuses me that the OP capitalizes "The Help."

The post reeks of classist nonsense. If OP is the representative of the "real" North Shore, I think I'd rather live among "The Help."

The reality TV world has already given us a glimpse of "The Real Housewives" - let's do a North Shore edition, with stereotypical snooty, condescending housewives and househusbands at the Manchester Yacht Club, while the nannies from "The Help" are busy raising their kids for them. Then we'll pan to Revere for the premiere of "The Help." Get some candid cameras on what these groups of interacting socio-economic castes really think of each other!

Hopefully our buddy cwaggy the OP will audition! I think he already has?

On the subject of nannies - I lived in Marblehead for a few years in the late 90's. At the time, all the nannies in town went to Jacob Marley's on Tuesday nights. It was easily a 10-1 female to male ratio. An OH BOY there was some eye candy in there! Good times.

AGAIN NORTH SHORE IS ANYWHERE NORTH OF BOSTON AND EAST OF 495.....NORTH OF THE MASS PIKE up to the NH Border. South Shore is anywhere inside 495 ...south of the MASS PIKE AND BOSTON TO THE SOUTH COAST AND CAPE COD CANAL. Doesn't have to have ocean coastline in it to be North or South Shore. And Most of us even in inland towns grew up as either North shore or south shore people and I doubt it will get us to change our views.. of which we are. =)

I like using I-93 as the delimiter between north shore and north of Boston, however I would exclude towns that have 93 within their borders. Also keep in mind that 93 goes in a northwesterly direction from Boston so I would not use the same logic in New Hampshire. In New Hampshire I would use Route 125 as the delimiter between the NH seacoast and the rest of the state.
