We did some house hunting this weekend for our upcoming move to Mass. Concord was one town we visited. While the town was lovely and the homes were beautiful, but I can't get over the fact that there is a massive Maximum Security Prison there covered in layers of barbed wire. Concord is a very desirable place to live, right? Is it me, or would anyone else question actually living in the town that holds seriously dangerous criminals.

Well it's not as if the prison were in the center of town. For that matter, you'd hardly ever pass by the prison going from one part of town to another. For me it'd be a complete non-issue.

I don't think it really bothers most people. It certainly doesn't seem to influence the housing costs in Concord.

After living the next town over for more than a decade, I pretty much forget the prison exists even when driving by.

West Concord is a rather happy place far removed from anything prison like.

The antique brick side of the prison facing the highway is pretty attractive.

It's not Maximum Security, don't know who informed you that.

Is there much difference between West Concord and Concord Proper?

MCI - Concord
Still not sure I'd be inviting the inmates over for dinner.

Was your agent trying to discourage you from looking at Concord? Funny thing for an agent to point out

It's over by the rotary near the town border, not like it's downtown or anything. Concord is still seen as desirable, I've actually never heard any one before mention the prison in Concord as a concern for moving, although if you do a search on Walpole and maybe even for Framingham with the word "prison" you'll find similar discussions. (I think the consensus was: it's fine.)
