If a homemade bedsheet sign flew down from an overpass onto a car's windshield and caused a multi-car pileup, killing an innocent family, who would be responsible? The anonymous sign-poster? The Commonwealth? The military?

Besides cell phones distracting drivers, there are now dimensional billboards, hanging posters and flags, and elaborate roadside memorials that can cause accidents. I want to be able to drive on the highway and arrive alive.

This is a stupid argument, and I agree with the Highway Dept. Get rid of overpass displays. We can honor our service people in many other ways.

We just sent a huge box of goodies to two military guys from my husband's office serving in Iraq. That is a much better way to honor them. Buy a phone card for a serviceman....they really appreciate it.

Casey you were right and it's good to see they have reversed their decision on this silly idea.

Yea, and none of the police are corrupt in this state. (sarcasim)

I never understood how roadblocks (for alcohol) were legal either...but it isn't just MA that has them.

If someone breaks into your house and you think your life, or your family is in danger, shoot away.

Make sure the gun is licensed, though!

thanks for that casey

In florida and I believe texas amongst other states have a similar law and that is you are well within your right to shoot them .
I know massachusetts has a strict gun law but after hearing about the texas man shooting those two robbers then I was wondering about massachusetts and the law in that state.

again thanks for the answer casey I'd rep you if I could

Oh, thanks but the laws in Texas are different. The Texas guy was protecting property, you'd be in big trouble if you tried something like that here.

The proposed law regarding spanking was introduced by some overly emotional nurse. That I know of, it has not made it to the State House, and probably won't. However, it should be noted that several other countries have similar laws.
Boston's Mayor Menino, in response to the many shootings in the city, authorized the BPD to search homes for "reported" weapons, but only with the permission of the responsible owner/occupant. This has supposedly been very successful in other cities with higher crime rates. I'm neither agreeing nor disagreeing, but Boston is not the first city to use this approach. There seems to be more than a few who are willing to jump on the BashBoston (andMA) bandwagon without doing their research.
As a previous commenter stated, overpass signs are a highway danger. I've had to avoid falling debris myself with my children in my car. Verrrryy scary. Roadside memorials can also be a danger. They can be a distraction to drivers and in certain weather conditions, debris flies into the road creating the potential for accidents and death. Has anyone noticed that we don't have those roadside billboards you find cluttering the highways in other states? There's a reason for that. For one, their cheesy, but more importantly, they're a distraction.

I've been a truck driver driving in massachusetts

for debris then the worst thing is when and there are many I bet even some on here who never bother clearing off the snow on their car or truck and there';s many in massachusetts

as for distractions well how many have used a cell phone while driving, how many have been putting on make up while driving, who has looked at road signs to advertise a restaurant special or something the list is endless, who has looked at the radio to change channel, how many have ben invovled in conversation and not paying attention to the road, how many cut down the breakdown lane hoping to gain a 1 minute,
so I just don't buy the distraction because you could say looking at the signs warning of traffic ahead, the speed signs is distracting

the whole thing about fl;ags is just plain stupid as is spanking you would think that with all the problems massachusetts has then these things are or should be the last on their mind, companies leaving, taxes going up and up, people leaving the state at record levels , unemployment higher than the national average, the debt. the govt corruption like the big dig, traffic and roads , schools all over the state laying off teachers i.e. quincy yet again thanks to the unions, cutting back on art, sport, etc programmes because of no money, unions , big dig, etc etc

Default Deadly Force

In Massachusetts, you can use deadly force only if attacked in your own home. Other states take this "castle doctrine" further and allow a person to defend themselves against attack in their car or place of business without fear of prosecution. Florida's law is far more progressive than Massachusetts' law.
