In Williamstown (NW corner of MA) there is a great small museum (Sterling and Francine Clark( full of lovely Impressionist and 19th century US classic paintings and other things. It's well worth looking into if you like art. Not super close to Northampton, but Williamstown is pretty (in a cold sort of way).

That is my favorite museum in all the world. When I lived in WMass I used to go out there once in a while. It's in the Berkshires, not WMass, so it's not really that close to where the OP is. Same thing with the Norman Rockwell Museum and anything else out in the Berkshires. If you lived in Northampton you could take a day trip out to the Berkshires and go to those places but I think it would be kind of far for someone who is in Northampton for a weekend and wants to see the Northampton area. Very nice places though.

Just a couple of FYIs, from a thirty-plus-year Northampton resident: the hospital is Cooley Dickinson, not Dickerson, and what people call "Skinner Mountain" or "Mt. Skinner" is actually called Mt. Holyoke. And please don't call Northampton "NoHo" -- that'll brand you as an outsider (unless you want that). The natives and long-timers call it "Hamp." Have a great visit!

Ha thanks for the heads up. As a native Upstate NYer that has lived in NC for the past few years, I have had my share of outsider comments and feelings, and try to limit them when possible

You mentioned Great Barrington, and I'm thinking of moving to that area! Any more input about things to do/see in that area?
