So we FINALLY sold our house in New Hampshire. My husband works in Providence, RI. We had our heart set on Franklin, but the inventory is low and the houses in our price range are awful. And most that are coming on are coming on ridiculously high. We have found that we can get exactly what we are looking for in Mendon for about $100,000 to $150,000 LESS and my husbands commute will be the same if not less. Just looking for opinions. We have been comparing school districts and it seems that Mendon/Upton has a really good system. As good if not better than Franklin. After waiting for a year to sell, we really want a nice neighborhood for the kids, good schools, and close to an acre of land for privacy. Mendon seems to fit the bill. I am going to look at houses in Mendon and Upton tomorrow. Thoughts?

Mendon is a small, ruralish town; while Franklin is a large, busy suburb.

Want open space with peace and quiet (and don't mind wells and septic), go with Mendon. Want shopping, the highway, restaurants, the train, and more activities for the kids; Franklin is what you want. Both have good schools.

that's interesting. City-data has the per capita income of Mendon to be higher than Franklin?

Franklin is a nice town, but it's not worth $150K more for the same house you can get in Mendon. You might want to consider Uxbridge, too. Let us know how it goes.

Mendon is a nice town. I personally like the feel of a smaller town. I happen to work in Franklin and like working there but it would be to busy to live there for me, not worth the extra money for the house.

We just bought an amazing house in Mendon BEFORE it hit the market (friend of a friend.) We are over the moon with the deal we got. I really loved the town. I didn't get a "feel" about Franklin like I did Mendon. And we are in an AMAZING neighborhood. I couldn't be happier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe that's closed now, but they have been trying to get it re-opened.

The only drive-in left is the Rustic in N. Smithfield.
