Townsend feels like a mountain town, similar to Westminster, Princeton, some of the nice towns in Southern NH and in some ways like Groton.

Lowell is very eclectic.

^^^ those pics were taken at Halloween and there are no people on the streets except for 8 lonely, lonely strollers !!!

My gawd - did the zombies eat the other 108,992 people!

All joking aside - yes, it's adorable in the pictures of scenic, historic downtown Lowell. But, where are the real people in real Lowell neighborhoods??

I notice that there are a lot of homes for sale in the south part of Lowell. Are there areas of Lowell I should look at and other neighborhoods I should stay away from?

I also think that housing values are only going to rise as people get priced out of Boston.

Neighborhoods I would avoid Back Central, most of Centerville, Lower Highlands and parts of Belvidare mainly by Saints Medical because other parts of Belvidare are beautiful. I am partial to The Upper Highlands and South Lowell. Pawtucketville is nice but traffic getting over the bridge is crazy.
If Townsend appeals to you come out to see it. It has a certain small town charm. I love having breakfast or lunch on Cliff's Cafe's front porch and watching traffic go by. Stop by Evans On The Common for upscale clothing and outdoor gear. Plenty of farm stands and a little waterfall you can walk out to right past town on 119. If you want small and natural Townsend might be for you. As for the commute, if you love where you live it might be worth it. My husband regularly commutes quite far, he is at Longwood in Boston for a few months right now. He tries to go in early and leave early, it makes a big difference.

Well said! This is from a site where the members are more interested in architecture and landscape than in people.
